The man who allegedly told NYPD detectives that he killed a missing Soho child in 1979 has been identified as NJ resident Pedro Hernandez. Inside Edition obtained photographs of him and reports, "At the time Etan [Patz], 6, went missing, Hernandez was 18 and lived near the Patz family in Soho. Hernandez now lives in New Jersey and is married with a college-aged daughter." Tomorrow will be the 33rd anniversary of Etan's disappearance.

No Remains Found As Etan Patz Dig Concludes, But Hair And Scrap Of Paper Taken Into Evidence
After four days of forensic of searching and digging in a SoHo basement, the search for evidence in the Etan Patz investigation appears to be winding down. No human remains have been found, but investigators tell NBC New York they did collect some hair samples, a piece of paper, and part of a wall with a mysterious stain on it. That so-called "stain of interest" was sent to an FBI lab in Quanitico, VA to determine if it's blood. An official tells the Wall Street Journal a second stain on a piece of concrete was discovered, but is not believed to be human blood.
Etan Patz Case: FBI, NYPD Remove Concrete From Soho Basement, Handyman Insists He's Innocent
Yesterday, the FBI and NYPD were seen removing pieces of concrete from the basement of 127 Prince Street in SoHo, as they continue their investigation into the 1979 disappearance of six-year-old Etan Patz. The search was apparently spurred by comments from handyman Othniel Miller, now 75-years-old; he has hired a criminal defense lawyer who emphasized Miller was not involved: "Mr. Miller has been cooperating with this investigation for over 30 years. He has continued to cooperate on multiple occasions. And I am going to assist him in cooperating to the fullest extent possible."
FBI, NYPD Continue Search For Etan Patz's Body To Solve 1979 Mystery
The FBI and NYPD are continuing their excavation of the basement at 127 Prince Street in SoHo, to continue their investigation related to the 1979 disappearance of six-year-old Etan Patz. A police cadaver dog did pick up the "scent of human remains deep in the walls of the building," according to 1010 WINS. NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said, We’re looking for any evidence of human remains, clothing or any personal effects... This location figured in the original investigation. The decision was made to come back, apply probably the best forensic expertise in the country between the FBI and NYPD." And now the focus of the investigation appears to be on a handyman who worked for Etan's family.
Canadian Kid Disappears From FAO Schwarz, Ends Up In Times Square
A 12-year-old Canadian boy gave his parents quite a scare yesterday afternoon when he disappeared from FAO Schwarz. When the unidentified parents realized he was gone, store security checked surveillance videos and found footage of him exiting the store with a stranger at 2:12 p.m. Fearing the worst, the NYPD brass ordered a Level 2 mobilization, and midtown was flooded with cops. (For more on NYPD mobilization levels, check out this fruitless debate in the comments, and this inconclusive message board post.)
Missing Boy's Mom Kept In Jail, Called A Liar And An Addict
The mother of a 7-year-old who disappeared from a foster home in Brooklyn more than a week ago remains behind bars because authorities believe she knows where her son is. Staten Island resident Jennifer Rodriguez—who according to the Post was described by a social worker yesterday as a drug-addicted habitual liar—is being held on contempt charges as authorities continue to look her son, Patrick Alford, who went missing on Jan. 22.
Welcome, Neighbor! Have You Seen My Son?
Nothing like knowing what kind of neighbors you're going to have in the new place! A reader writes in saying, "I live in Brooklyn and in my apartment building this was posted on the wall near the front entrance...seriously, wtf?" WTF, indeed. The full note can be seen after the jump, but to summarize, someone seems to have lost their son and thinks the new neighbors may have found/taken him. Towards the end a "joke" is made, as they note this has happened before and humor has become a coping mechanism.
