Roger Ebert gives his spoiler-filled thoughts on the controversy; Million $ Baby was his top movie of the year. The other NY Times story about Million Dollar Baby only mentioned the product placement for Clorox.

Be warned, anyone who works in media or anyone who knows anyone who works in media or anyone who knows anyone who consumes media. Apparently, a line in the sand has been drawn between blogs that cover NY media - a line in the sand, people! Or at least that's what an article in the NY Times City section suggests. The facts: In one snarky corner, there's Gawker with snarky publisher Nick Denton and snarky editor Jessica Coen, and in the other corner, there's Mediabistro, with less-snarky founder Laurel Touby and new uber-snarky editor Elizabeth Spiers (formerly of snarkcorp Gawker- still with us?) who is co-authoring the Mediabistro media gossip blog, FishBowlNY - add some quotes about competition, snarketition, rivalries, bitch-smacking, and Tara Reid's boobies (we made two of those up!). It's like Million Dollar Baby, except without the million dollars, and with more snark, and um, what were we talking about?

In the TV categories, Desperate Houswives cleaned up with five nominations (all the MILFs are nominated, except for the MILFiest one, Eva Longoria!). Desperate Housewives is fun and everything, and God knows that Marcis Cross must have a TV show, but Gothamist knows why the Hollywood Foreign Press Association betstowed so much love on them: They want hot ladies in hotter dresses at the ceremony. That's why Debra Messing keeps getting nominated. Then it's a lot of the usual "HBO gets lots of nominations stuff." Meh. And with three nominations (one for best actor for Ray, one for best supporting actor in Collateral, and one for a TV role), the HFPA really wants Jamie Foxx to win SOMETHING.

Boxing themed movies seem to come around every so often, even though none have done that well since Rocky. There was The Boxer, Ali, oft-delayed Against the Ropes, and Ron Howard is aiming to shoot The Cinderella Man, with Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger. The only one that has done well is Girlfight, and that's an indie.
