[Update below] Occupy Wall Street survived attempts by the 1% to co-opt the message, and arguably the movement itself sustained the removal of its original encampment at the hands of the NYPD. But can it survive Miley Cyrus? A new song, "Liberty Walk," was uploaded to Cyrus' YouTube account on November 23, and is "Dedicated to the thousands of people who are standing up for what they believe in." Homeland Security take note: dispersing crowds just got a little easier.

Urban Outfitters Responds To Charges Of Idea Theft
Mere hours after they invoked the wrath of one Miley Cyrus for "stealing" an Etsy designer's secret NY necklace sauce, Urban Outfitters has taken to their blog to respond to the "false allegations" by the designer, Stephanie Koerner. After claiming that they've been "supporting the Etsy community for years," the company states that "a quick search of Etsy for 'state necklace' reveals several other sellers with similar products (as seen here on Regretsy) who offered their wares as much as a year earlier than Ms. Koerner."
Miley Cyrus Tweets Out Against Jewelry-Stealing Urban Outfitters
Yesterday, it was discovered that Urban Outfitters had yet again ripped off the work of an independent designer, this time profiting disproportionately on the designs, descriptive copy and love for New York of Etsy seller Stevie Koerner, AKA Truche. Today, the story reached Miley Cyrus, and provoked her well-trained righteous indignation: "Not only [does Urban Outfitters] steal from artists," she tweeted, "but every time you give them money you help finance a campaign against gay equality." She followed up by quoting Rick Santorum, the "paleolithic" anti-Gay Republican senator to whom the CEO of Urban Outfitters has donated over $13,000, a second reason for her rage. But now there's a twist: Koerner is hardly the first jewelry maker to have the idea of slapping a heart shape on the silhouette of a U.S. state.
State Senate's Salvia Legislation Mentions Miley Cyrus
That's right, the day has come when Miley Cyrus's decisions are affecting our legal system. Salvia—an herbal drug that, when smoked, can cause intense hallucinations—came into the American mainstream after a video of the pop-star smoking it appeared in December. A few weeks ago, a Roosevelt Island man jumped to his death after smoking it, which pushed Senator John Flanagan to introduce legislation banning the substance. Yesterday, the legislation passed the State Senate.
Videos: "Duh, Winning!" SNL Tackles Charlie Sheen
Saturday Night Live returned with a new episode last night: Host Miley Cyrus poked fun at her "scandals" during her opening monologue, but most of the fun had to do with Charlie Sheen. The cold open had Bill Hader as Sheen in a new talk show, "Duh, Winning!"—where the fellow trainwreck guests included John Galliano, Moammer Gadhafi, and Lindsay Lohan (plus Christina Aguilera as an MC). Of course Vanessa Bayer played Miley Cyrus in a The Miley Cyrus Show bit—Cyrus herself played Justin Bieber—and another sketch illustrated the difficulty of being the Black-Eyed Peas who are not Fergie and will.i.am. Miley Cyrus Fans Say She "Looks So Old"
In a sign that children may finally be coming to their senses, many young Miley Cyrus fans say they aren't happy with the direction the pop star is going. At 17, Cyrus is ditching her innocent image for a darker, sexier look, evidenced by the cover of her latest album, Can't Be Tamed. But her younger fans don't get it. Perry Hamm, 11, told the Times, "I feel like she acts 25. She looks so old. She is too old for herself." Take notes, Bieber.
Week in Rock: Award Winning Edition
While the rest of the world is talking about Britney's manufactured comeback, another act that showed so much potential earlier in the decade is back trying to put a dent on the current music landscape. Stellastarr*, the post-Strokes, pre-Killers blogger sensation released two underappreciated albums before fading into the background for the last few years. This week, they’ve made a big stand at Pianos, playing 5 straight nights at one of the clubs where they got their start. The showcase at the smaller venue, including similar sized stops in DC, Boston and Philly, acts as a reboot of sorts for the New Yorkers, who have recently been working on a third album. They've got two more nights left at Pianos, although both shows are currently sold out.
Week in Rock: Change Edition
Out of all the choices last Friday night for Halloween, The Cardinals (don't call them Ryan Adams and the Cardinals anymore, that's his new peeve) provided perhaps the most low-key option. The audience was only partially costumed up at the historic theater in Harlem, and were, for the most part, politely restrained when it came to showing their love for the band. The audience stayed in their seats and behaved, and the Cards kept the drama to a minimum, with barely any of Ryan's infamous chatter. They played through almost the entirety of their latest album, as well as plenty from the whole back catalogue. Perhaps taking advantage of the break before returning to tour with Oasis, they even threw in his classic cover of "Wonderwall" to a stone quiet crowd. The band will be back in December with Noel and Liam and the rest at MSG.
Sex and the City Gals Get Revirginized
Candace Bushnell, the woman who launched a thousand well-heeled tourists on to a stoop in the Greenwich Village, is now jumping on the popular Young Adult bandwagon, having announced that she's inked a deal to write two teen novels. Get excited, they're Sex and the City prequels!
Feist on GMA vs. Miley Cyrus on Today Show
Last week Miley Cyrus took GMA's Bryant Park stage, sans Hannah Montana wig, for an early morning concert. This morning she took her act over to The Today Show, while Feist owned the GMA crowd at Bryant Park. It wasn't a competition but...they did both bring their spirit fingers! And even though Miley is popular with the tweens, Feist is sure to win over the tots after her appearance on Sesame Street airs later this year.
Miley Cyrus Comes to NYC, Leaves "Montana" at Home
Did you hear a bone-chilling collective shriek coming from the Bryant Park this morning? It was just Miley Cyrus and her legion of tweeny-bopper fans piled into Bryant Park for an early morning concert courtesy of Good Morning America. To put some perspective on it, this was pretty much equivalent to the Bon Jovi concert in Central Park but for the underage set.
UWS School Girls Dish on Cyrus During Cig Break
The NY Times visited the corner of 61st Street and Amsterdam to find out what New York adolescent girls at the alterna-Beacon School think of "role model" Miley Cyrus. Recently the 15-year-old actress was caught flaunting her bare skin online and in print.
More Creepy? Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus for Vanity Fair
While there may be an uproar around Miley Cyrus's "topless" photo for a Vanity Fair shoot, it's possible that this photograph of Miley with "Achy, Breaky" dad Billy Ray Cyrus is more disturbing. Or maybe it's just because we have never seen a daughter pose like this with her father. Then again, there is a father who convinced his daughter to work at a brothel and gives her bikini waxes.
Miley Cyrus "Embarrassed" Over Vanity Fair Photos
Oh, to be 15, to be the powerhouse behind a $1 billion franchise, and to have your "artistic" portrait--taken by Annie Leibovitz--be criticized! Teen star Miley Cyrus's photographs for the June issue of Vanity Fair have prompted a war of the words between the teen star, Disney (which produces her wildly popular "Hannah Montana" show) and the magazine.
