Roger Clemens went to Congress and spoke with congressional lawyers for five hours on Tuesday. While the meeting was private, Clemens did speak to reporters afterwards and reiterated his innocence saying, "It was great to be able to tell them what I've been saying all along -- that I've never used steroids or growth hormone." One of Clemens’ lawyers, Lanny Breuer added that Clemens "answered every question that was posed to him today.”

Joe Torre opened his press conference this afternoon by saying that he had “just gotten off the phone with George Steinbrenner and he has informed me that I will be the manager in 2007.” So closes one of the more bizarre 48 hours in Yankees’ history. First we heard Joe was gone, then he was coming back, and then no decision had been reached. (And somewhere in there, Giuliani called Steinbrenner to save Torre's job.) Now we know, Torre is returning.
-Mets and the Giants PPD: The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Saturday, giving fans two chances to let Barry know how they feel.
The Yankees won their second series of the year by beating the Orioles 7-1 on a day better suited for football than baseball at the Stadium. The win brings the team a game over .500, the best they have been since starting the year with a victory in Oakland.
The excitement in the All-Star game came long after most fans had turned off their televisions. Gothamist can’t blame them as the American League jumped out to a 7-0 lead after six innings before some shaky relief pitching allowed the National League to claw back into the game. In the end, seven runs was too big a deficit to overcome and the AL hung on for a 7-5 victory.
Ponson was the story of the night. After the first two innings, Ponson retired 16 straight batters. Matsui broke the streak with a single in the 8th inning. The Yankees could only muster 4 hits off of Ponson as he pitched a complete game. Jose Contreras on the other hand was doomed by one bad inning. He was pitching on three days' rest.
Erik Bedard and the Baltimore bullpen, led by newly acquired and former Yankee Jason Grimsley, held the Bronx Bombers to two runs and seven hits. Miguel Tejada led the way for the Orioles going 3-5 with four RBI.
7 games vs. the Orioles, 70 runs and 7 wins. Yankee management has got to be thinking, "can we schedule some more games with these guys?" Last night the Yankees jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on an Alex Rodriguez home run in the 1st inning. Mike Mussina, making his first start since he injured his groin 10 days ago, got off to a rocky start, but managed to pick up the win. Mussina gave up a three run home run to Miguel Tejada in the first inning, but settled down after that. The Yankees never looked back. A-Rod added another home run in the 7th inning and Derek Jeter had a homer in the 2nd, as the Yanks posted yet another win over their American League East rivals. Tonight Jon Lieber tries to get his 6th win of the year, as the Orioles counter with Erik Bedard.
