For the second year running, the Food Bank for New York City and the Lunchbox Fund of South Africa have enlisted over 100 celebrities in their holiday fundraiser. Boldface names like Kanye West, Elton John, Cameron Diaz, Mike Meyers, William Wegman and, um, Urban Outfitters, have created personalized, autographed lunchboxes that are now onsale via online auction. At Thursday night's kick-off event at Saatchi & Saatchi, a lunchbox by Michael Stipe was snatched up......

Last month Reverend Billy was locked up for reciting the First Amendment in Union Square. Tonight he returns with a troupe of others to speak out against the outrageous new law that would limit public photography and filming in New York. Currently there are 2,285,188 photos tagged "New York" on Flickr, and that's just one photo sharing site, imagine if the number stopped there and we lost future images of the city. A new group......

Tibet Rocks Last Monday at Carnegie Hall there was a Hall of Fame reunion of sorts to support The Tibet House New York. Rock icons such as Ray Davies, Debbie Harry, Lou Reed, Patti Smith and Michael Stipe teamed up with more of-the-moment stars Sigur Ros and Ben Harper to celebrate Tibetan culture. The show was a great success, from all reports, including some duets and surprise arrangements from the legends on hand. Them aside,......

One of the first Carnegie Hall shows we went to, years ago, was the Tibet House Benefit. The President of Tibet House is none other then Uma's dad, Robert A.F. Thurman. The annual show he has help put on is now in its 17th year, and this time around will take place on February 26th. The lineup has been confirmed (why the press release is giving Ben Harper top billing is beyond us) and some......

Letterman is celebrating his 25th anniversary of being on the air as a late night host tonight. Today in 1982 Letterman launched his "Late Night With David Letterman'' show on NBC (which has since moved to CBS). His guests on that show were Bill Murray, Warren Zevon and ongoing character Larry Bud Melman. Paul Shaffer led the band (which at the time was called the World's Most Dangerous Band). There hasn't been much going......

English film director Michael Winterbottom and the three subjects of his most recent film, The Road to Guantanamo, were on hand last night for a post-screening discussion about conditions inside the Cuban base sponsored by the ACLU. Hosted by the IFC Center as a part of their ongoing Q&A series, the panel led by ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero brought home the responsibility of all people who care about human rights to speak out against......

Radiohead has offiically left New York City. Thom Yorke has posted some pictures of their time here on their blog though, in a post titled: Grainy New York. Above is one of them. Where is it? Maybe at the Soho House (we heard they like to stay there). Did you catch them while they were in town? We were lucky enough to be at night one. And for those who care, these famous people......

So, Gothamist reading NY magazine when our eye was caught by the Economy of One column, How Would Kate Spade Spend $14,500?. The subheadline read, "The designer budgets her salary at her first job—fashion assistant at Mademoiselle magazine—for herself and her baby-to-be," and we thought, "Ooh, we'll get tips on how to live on the super cheap from Kate Spade!" And then we soon found it was really about Kate Spade as Kate Spade, handbag......

Beer, wine or cocktails? Wine. What could I order that will get me laughed right out of the bar? A pina colada out of a blender. Who has been your favorite celebrity patron? I would never answer that question; I'm too discreet. Aw, c'mon . . . Well, I served Michael Stipe, which was pretty cool. Otto Enoteca Pizzeria, One Fifth Avenue at Eighth Street, (212) 995-9559.......

Sam had a good time at the Interpol show Saturday night, especially with the Raveonettes ("The lead singer, she's hot, man."). Me, I saw Tears of the Sun (and it almost made me cry of boredom in during the first 90 minutes, even though it's directed by the director with the best last name ever, Antoine Fuqua), but I've been listening to "NYC" by Interpol a lot. It's pretty hypnotizing. While some say they sound......
