Less than 6 hours until kickoff at Lambeau Field and it's a balmy -6° in Green Bay. With winds at 15 miles per hour, Accuweather's real feel temperatures are -18°. While temperatures will increase by game time, it's still going to be ass-cold. The cold weather and the importance of the game makes it an event that could be one for the ages, something that seems to happen with frigid temperatures. Despite the cold weather,......

MOVIE: BAM pays homage to the late Barbara Stanwyck tonight with a screening of Forbidden. The 1932 Frank Capra-directed film (which tells the tale of a librarian who has fallen for an unobtainable/married man) was supposedly influenced by his real-life affair with the leading lady. Critic and historian Elliott Stein will discuss the film after the 6:50 screening. 4:30, 6:50 and 915pm // BAM Rose Cinemas [30 Lafayette Ave., Fort Greene] // $11 Meanwhile, the......

With a heavy heart, we say farewell to another wonderful film festival at Lincoln Center. The program closed with an animated movie, an adaptation of Marjane Satrapi's graphic novels about growing up in Iran called Persepolis. Using the voices of French actresses Catherine Deneuve as Marjane's mom and Deneuve's daughter with Marcello Mastrioanni, Chiara, as Marjane, the movie is a charming and evocative snapshot of life during the Islamic revolution and subsequent war with Iraq.......

American Idol has been on the decline ever since Kelly Clarkson stepped off the stage. It's understandable, the first time is always more exciting -- and c'mon, one can only take so much of Paula's craziness, Simon's snarkiness and Randy Jackson's what's up dawg's. USA Today is reporting that 2007's Idols Live Tour (who knew) has plenty of empty seats. So where does a New Yorker go to hear a new (Sanjaya-less) talent pool? Amateur......

Chicagoist is gearing up for this weekend's annual Air & Water Show along the lakefront. In what's becoming an annual tradition around there, staff member Todd McClamroch even got to fly with one of the participants. Chicagoist's decidedly opinionated readership was also appalled that one of their staffers found a popular local brewpub to be a great place to bring a kid. They also think that an unlikely activist for immigration rights should just take......

Opening this past weekend and running through June 30th is Seattle artist Mike Leavitt's "New York Art Army" show. Hand-made action figures were created to visually tell the history of the city's creative scene, the wooden New Yorkers stand alongside other "urban art stars and old masters." Fittingly, the show (exhibited in a site-specific installation) is across the street from the ToyTokyo toy shop, at their Showroom. Leavitt’s “toys” depict famous and controversial artists like......

Distributer of royalties, BMI, filed a federal lawsuit against Jay-Z's 40/40 Club yesterday. The performing right organization holds the licensing rights to 6.5 million songs, and apparently plenty of them are being played at the club, the lawsuit cites "unauthorized public performance of musical compositions." In other words, Jay-Z has been holding out and skimping on royalties owed to fellow musicians! The Post reports that Michael Jackson, R. Kelly and over a dozen music publishers......

Last year around this time, the Observer pitted Williamsburg hipsters and Park Slope yuppies against each other. This year, the Observer tackles the yearning some native New Yorkers have for when NYC was bad (sorta like Michael Jackson video Bad!). Summer of Sam, Needle Park, Ford telling the city to drop dead, all of it seems better than it is now. Here's what some people told the Observer:- “I was flashed all the time—that’s......

Pazz and Jop, revealed! Just when we thought we were finally done having to think about the music of 2006, we get one last hurrah of ultimate listage. The 34th annual Pazz and Jop poll finally made landfall this week, and unsurprisingly, there were few shockers. Some feigned outrage/interest that Bob Dylan's latest overtook the otherwise consensus disc of the year by TV on the Radio (see image), but a few minor swaps at the......

It’s been a couple of year since Baltimore auteur John Waters has brought a new movie to the silver screen but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been as busy as ever. Whether it’s guest starring on TV shows or curating art exhibits, Waters puts his distinctive, off kilter imprint on anything he’s involved in, even the lowly mix tape. After adding oddity to your holiday soundtrack with his Christmas CD A John Waters Christmas, Waters......

Jagshemash! Borat is a hit. It's getting rave reviews, grossing millions, and definitely the most quotable thing we've seen in ages. But Borat seems to have missed most of the -ist cities, and we were all wondering how the film would have been different if he'd made his way around the world on the -ist tour. In Shanghai, Borat would be observing Inane Learnings of Penis Photos for Make Benefit Glorious Flat World of......

Dave Hill knows the importance of a good guitar solo. That's why his show, The Dave Hill Explosion, features a kick ass extended guitar solo. But that's not all his show has. The previous installment featured Sandra Bernhard, mini Michael Jackson, and a Chihuahua. But, no matter what's on the show, the focus is always on Hill, a master showman. How does it feel to be the number one Google result for Dave Hill?......

The long vacant One Times Square may find a tenant in Pepsi. The Post reports that Pepsi is negotiating to take over the space, which once housed a Warner Bros. Store (remember when those were all the rage - the one on Fifth Avenue and 57th, with clear elevator and Batman or Superman "carrying" the elevator up), with a strategy to make it a Pepsi brand museum. Gothamist can only chalk that up to museum......

It seems many film critics think Burton’s “darker” Willy Wonka bears an uncanny resemblance to Michael Jackson clad in Austin Powers’ wardrobe. E! reports that “a PG-rated kids' fantasy--linked to a fallen pop star with longish black hair, pale skin, a whisper for a speaking voice, a penchant for military garb and a recent acquittal on child-molestation charges is likely not what the Hollywood studio had in mind when it turned Burton.” Depp insists......

As the Michael Jackson not guilty verdict was announced yesterday, crowds gathered in Times Square and gasped, cheered, or just were dumbstruck. Many New Yorkers seem to believe he was guilty of something, and were surprised that he was found not guilty on all counts, but not that surprised that a celebrity was found not guilty. Some thought that the trial was a witch hunt, and one Bronx woman told the Daily News, "Michael, if......

Michael Jackson was found not guilty on all counts brought against him. This means defense attorney Thomas Mesereau is 1-for-2 in getting seemingly guilty celebrities off (we were mistaken in thinking he was Robert Blake's attorney during the acquittal; Gothamist guesses Mesereau won't be getting that "Lawyer to Stars Who Can't Pay So Good" plaque) and/or that the California legal system sucks. All Gothamist has to say is that no other parent can consider themselves......

Last week I didn't tell you about the show Beck played at Hiro Ballroom Friday night (one night before his appearance on Saturday Night Live). That's because the "secret" show wasn't even announced until Thursday. Beck is known for playing last-minute small-venue shows, and I was lucky enough to score a ticket to this one. Here are the pictures. In February, Beck played another secret show in Los Angeles. The opener was none other than,......

Just the other day someone mentioned to us a rock photography exhibit at the Guggenheim. And we hadn't heard of it! Shocking, since a giant book of old rockstar images on glossy pages compose the top shelf of our nightstand. There is just something about the genre we love. So, needless to say, we'll surely be hitting up Slater Bradley's Doppleganger Trilogy. On exhibit through May 22nd at the Guggenheim, it has a different spin......

If Cate Blanchett's Oscar-nominated performance as the incomparable Kate Hepburn in The Aviator had you hungering for some of that original patrician flavor, head to MoMA this weekend. As a part of a tribute to director George Stevens, the museum will be screening the Hepburn/Tracy classic, Woman of The Year on Saturday at 8 pm. The original "they hate-each-other, they-love-each-other" rom com with Hep and Trac as warring journalists, it's a must. Aren't journalists in......

Sometimes, fate just works so that the randomly assigned tickets in the 226 section of the Beastie Boys show at Madison Square turn into the best seats in the house. For the first song of their encore, Mike D, MCA and Adrock appeared right behind Gothamist and everyone around us lost it. People climbed over seats to get closer as the Beastie Boys sang Intergalactic. One poster to the Beastie Boys Message Board notedThe......

Only beautiful people can throw beautiful people parties at clubs that are already the toast of the town before they've officially opened. This is a rule of the city. You can tattoo this on your arm. It's called the pecking order, people. Get beautiful or get used to it. NA, Noel Ashman's semi-private club which opens October 6th, seemed much more than semi-open to Jay McInerney and Candace Bushnell's party for the publication of......

As the news of recent Emmy winner Cynthia Nixon having a girlfriend these past 10 months, after splitting up with her longtime partner and the father of her two children, Gothamist wants to chip in our two cents: We love you and want you to be happy, Cynthia. Most weather sites give you easy options for adding weather to your site using some stock weather "stickers" they make available for you. Usually it's a pre-packaged piece of code they put together to simply cut and paste. You can choose the city and the type of information you want to show. It serves both parties pretty well as it adds content to your website while providing free advertising for them. Some sites that......

To add to greg.org's disbelief that the New York Times is just coming to the South Park table now, Gothamist can't believe that there was no mention of the Death Camp of Tolerance episode (with Lemmiwinks) or Scott Tenorman Must Die (with Radiohead). South Park does lampoon all religions well, but it's also an excellent hotbed of social satire (the recent metrosexual-skewering South Park is Gay! and Michael Jackson inspired The Jeffersons). And more attention......
