Convicted cop killer Ronell Wilson angered the judge presiding over his trial when a warden told him Wilson broke the "shatterproof" windows in a prison visiting room. Wilson, who was sentenced to death for the murders of two undercover police detectives and is at the Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting formal sentencing, threw a chair at the windows when he found out a visit from his mother and sister would be "non-contact" (his previous visits had allowed him touch his relatives). There was a four-hour standoff, with a SWAT team waiting, until Wilson gave up.

Oh, Fred the cat - and detective - everyone misses you! After news of your death, all the major papers are giving you your due. with the Daily News calling you a "claws celebre" and Newsday reliving your brave bust of a fake vet in Brooklyn. The NY Times' Michael Brick, who wrote about Fred the Cat back in February in a staccato, noirish tone eulogizes Fred in a similar way and also explains how Fred ran into the street from owner Brooklyn ADA Carol Moran's home:

Everyone is trying to get to the bottom of David Gest's claims that Liza got stronger when she liquored up. Times reporter Michael Brick takes his assignment seriously and asks the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, a bartender at Russian Samovar, and a country singer in Brooklyn if vodka really can make someone super strong. Bartender Joseph Volovnik says, "It can make you fearless, not stronger. Why not stronger? Well, I'm just a bartender. I would say crazier." Gothamist loves this kind of journalism! And we must get back to the Russian Samovar soon.
The Times looked at the changing face of Gansevoort Market, an area in the Meatpacking Distract that just won historic district status. The area is "bordered by 14th and 15th Streets on the north, Horatio Street on the south, West Street on the west and Hudson Street on the east." Both the restaurant owners and meatpacking unions are aligned in trying to manage development of the area so it does not lose its charm, or, rather, its grittiness. Reporter Michael Brick also dryly notes a "" Gothamist did chuckle over that.
