When self-proclaimed "pizza master" Michael Ayoub invited us to an evening party of wine and pizza pairings (complete with a mozzarella making demonstration) at the LES's Cronkite Pizzeria, Gothamist knew we had to stop by for a taste. Last night, Ayoub, the chef-owner of Cronkite as well as of Fornino in Williamsburg, catered to a hungry and happy crowd with a selection of antipasti and "3 Generations of Pizza" -- fifteen varieties of artisanal pizzas selected from the more extensive daily menu.

If you missed attending Monday's Gothamist-Slice Pizza Party at Fornino, you missed a great event as well as a mozzarella making demonstration. Lucky for all of us, there's video of the demo by chef/owner Michael Ayoub thanks to Slice and Matty. Essentially, you take milk curds, have them sliced up, pour water onto them, and then make the resulting mass of cheese nice and smooth, but we're over simplifying. The process in the video is much more clear.
Wow. Last night's Gothamist-Slice Pizza Party was awesome. For those of you that came out last night, we hope you had as much fun that we did. A big thank you to Fornino, Michael Ayoub and his wonderful staff that helped make the night so fun (and tasty). At the end of the night, Ayoub told Gothamist and Adam from Slice that they made over 200 pies, running through almost all the dough they had. In addition to the great pizza, there was a mozzarella demonstration, with some delicious samples, and a nice spumoni desert which was a perfect finish to the night.
