Celebrate the extension of the vendors' permit through the end of their season in October and add on extra festivities for Mexican and Central American Independence Day. Caesar Fuentes, the organizing force behind the vendors, promises that "the food vendors committee will host a livelier than usual weekend event - more soccer games, pinatas, music, and a 2 day art exhibit featuring photographs taken by the food vendors." Sounds good to us.

The Chocolate Show is coming! The Chocolate Show is coming! We know where we'll be camped out this weekend . . .
In happy news, the City announced that it will commit over $43 million (over $27 million more than previously thought) to the High Line. Two other important events happened at a press conference attended by Mayor Bloomberg and his likely 2005 mayoral race opponent, City Council Speaker Gifford miller: (1) Diller Scofidino + Renfro signed a contract with the Friends of the High Line and the City to design the High Line; and (2) the City and NY State have come together to file permission to turn the High Line into a public space (it's called "rail-banking," which lets rail easements to be turned into public spaces); Governor Pataki was even there to salute this effort. This is the kind of harmony from city officials Gothamits likes. We are very excited that the High Line plan is continuing to move forward. We suggest others interested in the future of the High Line attend community input forum on October 19, at the Metropolitan Pavilion (110 West 19th Street, 7PM), that will allow for the public to participate in the master planning process. RSVP community@thehighline.org.
We know there's still plenty of eating to do in September, but there are already a few October events that Gothamist has discovered coming down the pike.
