1% Occupying Streets With Luxury Conversion Vans

Since its invention, the conversion van has been a vehicle of the 99%, helping the middle class conceive to the sounds of Whitesnake, providing shelter to smoke that Thanksgiving joint with uncle Lonny, and getting the kids to Water Country USA right when the gates open. Not content to let us have the one vehicle that maintains our dignity, Mercedes-Benz has been marketing their 9-foot tall, 22-foot long Sprinter conversion/cargo van to New York's upper crust. If you think their Chevy Astro-aerodynamics are ugly, it's because you're too poor to understand. more ›

Diplomat's Driver Leaves Mercedes Idling, Perfect For Car Thief To Crash It

Oh, United Nations diplomats with their fancy cars! We know they are awesome at racking up millions in unpaid parking tickets, but did you know that sometimes their drivers leave $100,000 Mercedes Benz S550 sedans double-parked and idling on streets as they duck into bodegas for snacks? more ›

Teenager Crashes Dad's Mercedes Into Subway Sign

Teenager Crashes Dad's Mercedes Into Subway Sign

In what was presumably a bold political statement against public transit and the transit lockbox bill making its way through Albany and nothing to do with getting the hang of accelerating, a teenage driver steered his father's Mercedes SUV into the Nevins Street subway station in Downtown Brooklyn yesterday. A deli worker nearby tells the Post that "I was ringing up a customer, and I heard this boom." The boy also knocked over a line of bike racks, striking a blow for all those who believe this is a Car's Town. It is possible, however, that the teenage driver just sneezed at the wrong moment. more ›

Parking Attendant Backs Mercedes Out 5th Floor Window

Parking Attendant Backs Mercedes Out 5th Floor Window

An attendant at a parking garage at University and 12th Street is lucky to be alive, but he'll be even luckier to get his job back after driving a 2009 Mercedes SUV out a 5th floor window yesterday. The owner of the garage thinks the attendant was confused by the vehicle's new-fangled steering wheel gear-change buttons and may have pressed "R" for reverse, instead of "D" for drive. The result was a two-story fall down onto the roof of an adjacent building, which the attendant survived with only minor injuries. The Mercedes, however, is totaled; a blogger for Style Rumor happened to be shopping nearby and has photos of the wreck. As of this morning, what's left of the car was still stuck behind the garage, and police sources told Fox 5 they may need a crane to hoist it out...which means this could get a lot worse before it gets better. more ›

State Senator Jeff Klein Curses the Wrong Cyclist

State Senator Jeff Klein Curses the Wrong Cyclist

Ooh Mama, State Senator Jeff Kleinin the news recently for calling out restaurants with health code violations—just got his ass handed to him by Colin Beavan, who many know as No Impact Man for his very public effort to reduce his environmental impact to zero. Beavan was riding his bike near City Hall yesterday when a black Mercedes started drifting into him. To avoid being pinned between the Mercedes and the parked cars to his left, Beaven knocked on the Mercedes's window to alert the driver to his presence. That driver, according to Beaven, was Senator Klein (pictured), and Beaven's written an open letter to the pol about the ensuing exchange:

At this point, you brought your vehicle to an abrupt halt, not to avoid hitting me, but because you apparently needed to communicate something to me. You rolled down your window and said, "Get your hands off my car, you fucking asshole." more ›

Teen Driver Allegedly Asked, "How is the Mercedes?"

Teen Driver Allegedly Asked, "How is the Mercedes?"

Jacob Chubalashvili was arraigned yesterday on charges including second-degree manslaughter for crashing into an Acura, killing its two passengers immediately in Forest Hills on Tuesday morning. The Queens DA's office released some of the 17-year-old unlicensed driver's statements:

[On the morning of August 5] Chubalashvili said, “I just took the car, I didn’t have permission to take it. I smoked some marijuana before I took the car... I remember taking the car, it’s a Mercedes and jetting down the road and the next thing I remember is waking up in the hospital.” more ›
