We were really knocked out by Mazarin at Pianos last week. Very fun band. One can only hope that this week holds such surprise awesomeness. Some potential candidates:
While he didn't make his season debut yesterday, it certainly seems like Mike Piazza has been missing all season. Entering yesterday's game Piazza was hitting below the Mendoza Line, but that all changed with a 4-5 performance. One of Piazza's hits was a 3-run home run in the 8th inning, which gave the Mets a healthy cushion they would later need.
It also seems like Captain Derek Jeter is back, going 3-4 last night and 7-15 for the series and boosting his average above the dreaded Mendoza Line from .190 to .211. Gothamist is going to treat this as a sign of Jeter's return to normal and a case reacting to media over-reaction on Monday.
Derek Jeter continues to struggle at the plate. He is hitless in his last 17 at bats and 1-26.Gothamist knows that it's unlikely, but you've got to wonder - can Jeter continue to hit below the Mendoza Line? Jeter feels that he's getting close though, "I thought today was the best all around day I've had in a long time." Gothamist thinks the question is if Yankee fans will boo him when they return from the road trip. If they do, it probably won't be too bad, but maybe it could serve as a wake-up call.
