Sure, the FDNY may have taken care of one rooftop ice glacier, but just think of all those icicles and mounds of snow still out there, up above. They're just waiting for the sun to loosen them up enough so they can fall on you, like some twisted wintertime Icarus. Be careful out there, not everyone will be as lucky as this man pictured, who just narrowly escaped. [via EV Grieve]
Heads Up: Melting Snow Waiting To Fall On You
It's Raining...Icicles
Following the snow storm, there's no doubt that the sidewalks in the city weren't all ice-free this week. Earlier this year the DoT told us, "The City is generally in charge of snow removal on streets and sidewalks, though property owners share in that responsibility on adjacent sidewalks." But what about all of that melting snow dripping on your head? NY1 reports today that "The Department of Buildings says property owners should safely remove any ice or snow from buildings." (Having an icicle fall on you is just as possible as you falling on the ice, after all.) They also say that "melting snow can damage the building's structural integrity and that cold temperatures could create a safety hazard in the form of icicles." Mother Nature is quickly loosening up those frozen daggers, so be careful out there!
