Arthur Fellig, aka Weegee, collaborated with Stanley Kubrick when the two were both struggling photographers in the city. Weegee's work from his time behind the lens is being celebrated this year, but where's the love for Kubrick's photos? Back in the 1940s he was a staff photographer for LOOK Magazine, and yesterday the Museum of the City of New York Tweeted a link to photos of Kubrick's photographs capturing New York City’s subway commuters. more ›

Photos: New Exhibit Shows A "City In Terror" Through 1970s NYPD Photos

           

We've seen 1970s New York City cops laughing it up on the job, but the Bad Old Days weren't always so hilarious. Starting this week the Museum of the City of New York is unveiling their latest exhibit, titled Police Work: Photographs by Leonard Freed, 1972-1979. The expansive collection of vintage prints from the Brooklyn-born photographer show "life on the beat" during the "tumultuous" time, revealing "the complexity, the harshness, and the camaraderie of the city's public safety servants and the people they protected." more ›

"Only In New York" Exhibit

       

Print isn't dead just yet, it's living on as art. The Museum of the City of New York has put together a nostalgic exhibit comprised of photographs from the now defunct LOOK Magazine. The publication reached peak circulation (of nearly 8 million) in the late 1960s, with nationwide readers who were attracted to the Only in New York-esque photographs (some of them taken by the likes of Stanley Kubrick). So naturally, the exhibit is called "Only in New York: Photographs from LOOK Magazine" (as is the book). more ›

All NYC Parks on View in One Museum

          

The first photographic study of New York City's parks since the 1930s will be on view at the Museum of the City of New York starting October 9th. The massive wall-sized prints will be on view through March 7th, introducing visitors to parks in all five boroughs (and making it easier to envision Mannahatta). more ›
