Should "Beware of Dog" Signs Be Multilingual?
The Chinese restaurant worker who was mauled by three pit bulls Sunday morning claims the dogs' owner was more concerned with her pets' safety than his gruesome injuries. Xiu Ming Li was visited in his hospital bed by the Daily News yesterday, and the tabloid paints the scene in classic maudlin brush strokes: "Blood seeped from fresh white gauze covering bite marks on his arms and legs. His right ear—where he lost an earlobe—was also wrapped in gauze. His wife sat at his bedside, her eyes full of tears." Somewhere, off in the distance, a dog barked?

One of his earlobes was also chewed off! The dogs' owner, Samantha Sing, and the landlord, Desiree Murray, heard the dogs' barking and rushed outside to try and stop them. Carroll Gardens Dog Owners Want Malamutes Put Down
Last Sunday, two Alaskan Malamutes fatally mauled a Schnoodle named Kaiser at a Carroll Gardens dog park. Malamute owner Robert Harney says, "I'm horrified over this," but Schnoodle owner Alexis Russo says Harney's pets are too dangerous, and should either be put down or muzzled at all times. He told the Post, "They have tasted blood, and it's only a matter of time."

Charla Nash, 50, was transported to the Cleveland Clinic, which had performed a successful face transplant last December. However, it's unclear whether Nash is a good candidate for a transplant—a doctor at a different hospital told the Cleveland Plain Dealer, "Some of the traditional reconstructive techniques might not work well for this patient."
Staten Island Man, Mauled by Pit Bulls, Dies
Henry Piotrowski, the 90-year-old man who was mauled by a neighbor's pit bulls on Staten Island last month, died on Sunday. The Advance reports his death "means prosecutors are almost certain to pursue more serious criminal charges against the dogs' owners, and has spurred renewed calls for a ban on the breed. " Neighbors had apparently called to complain about the dogs before, and one who witnessed the attack said Piotrowski was essentially being "eaten alive." The niece of the victim, a World War II veteran who spent the past six weeks in intensive care and had his leg amputated, said, "Uncle Hank's legacy is whatever changes to the law happen because of this. I understand the police are busy. But when people call over five months saying there's a problem, something should be done."
