  • Mercury 97, Liberty 86: The Liberty continue to struggle losing their 8th game out of the last 10. At least they lost to the Mercury, who are in first place in the Western Conference. 25-point efforts by Janel McCarville and Shameka Christon weren't enough to lift the Liberty past Phoenix.
  • In the 9th inning, with former Mets closer Armando Benitez on the mound, David Wright stepped to the plate with bases loaded and one out. Any long-time Mets fan knows what comes next. Not because of what Wright can do, but of the torture that Benitez put fans through while he was with the Mets. Wright hit a two-run double, giving the Mets the go ahead runs. Oh Armando, how we missed you so.

Saturday’s loss must have stung more than Sunday’s. Neither Pedro Martinez nor Mark Mulder was dominant, and the Mets rallied to take a one-run lead into the 8th. Even struggling Kazuo Matsui pitched in with a three-run triple. But Roberto Hernandez, perhaps the most consistent Mets’ reliever this season, gave up two runs in the eighth, and the Mets lost 7-6. On Sunday, the Mets’ line-up ran into Matt Morris, managing just two runs on 6 hits in a 4-2 loss.
