We know that sometimes the volume of posts at Gothamist can be a bit much to keep up with. For that reason, we developed our Favorites page, which shows you the top ranked stories over the last day, week, month, or year. We've recently added an "all time" option-- did you know that the most commented story in the history of Gothamist.com is "First Thoughts on the Matrix Reloaded" from May 2003?

You can tell a lot about a year by seeing which posts were popular, and from Gothamist's standpoint, it's been a banner year for our readers who are perverts or nerds (we're hoping the loyal readers are both). Here are a few of our most popular posts: Thoughts on the Matrix Reloaded; 100 Best Songs; when we pretended to know all about friendster messages; Paris Hilton sex tapes and her SNL appearance; Nicole Richie's racial identity; What not to do when you blog; Jelly Kelly; Best Movie Sex Scenes; Michael Jackson's mugshot; Nudist camps for teenagers; Blackout Edition; Lever House Restaurant; Metrosexuals; Hating Lauren Weisberger (related, Weisberger on her boss Anna Wintour ), Jayson Blair, Blair Hornstine; Larry Wachowski's possible sex change; anything on teenaged stars, speficially Hilary Duff (related, her nutty fans); the New York City Blackout Edition; and our Events page, brought to life by editor Mindy and intern Willa.
After Gothamist posted a short entry entitled "First Thoughts on the Matrix Reloaded" on May 15th, we noticed an unusual amount of traffic on the post almost immediately. Then the comments started, and they just never stopped- according to the current stats, there were more than 360 as of today. We thought that was unusual, but then we mentioned it to Kottke, and he said the same thing had happened on his Matrix Reloaded post, to the tune of 700 comments. Today, Kottke went back to the post and did a little analysis:
The Times has a good run down on the scene of the Chelsea mini-storage shooting last week. The incident occured on the third floor, in a warren of fluorescent lit hallways, after a plainclothes officer encountered Ousmane Zongo and shot him four times. The Times describes the third floor as something out of Alice and Wonderland, but the pictures on the CMS website remind me of the secret hallways in the Matrix Reloaded.
The Matrix Reloaded will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival this May. It will be shown out of competition on the same day it's released around the world, May 15.
