Apparently, you're not the only one who while reading the New York Times magazine every week thinks, This crazy profile would make one helluva movie. Our paper of record announced late yesterday that they've struck an exclusive deal with the Broder Webb Chervin Silbermann Agency in Los Angeles to broker the options from NYT content.

Though Gothamist is a self-professed Anglophile who can often be seen fondling the Hob Nobs at Myers of Keswick, Gothamist admits to having totally missed the boat on Alistair Cooke. It must have been his long-running stint as host of Masterpiece Theater that shadowed his brilliant work for the BBC, the Letter From America.

This Sunday, Masterpiece Theatre brings us part one of White Teeth, adapted from Zadie Smith's sprawling novel about two families, one Indian, the other British-Caribbean, in 1970s London. Gothamist and practically everyone else seemed to be reading White Teeth in 2000, and why not when a book is so funny, sad, moving, and distinctive in voice.
