Never underestimate how long Martha Stewart can hold a grudge: according to the Post, Stewart visited ultra-hot Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria on Great Jones Street Thursday night—except her old nemesis Rachael Ray was already there. And witnesses say Stewart was was “noticeably glaring in Ray’s direction throughout her meal.” She was reportedly so uncomfortable, Ray left with her main course in a doggie bag after having her appetizer.

Not A Good Thing: Martha Stewart Will End Show In April
Say it ain't so! The Martha Stewart Show will go off the air following broadcasting season in April, after suffering from bad ratings on the Hallmark Channel. According to the NY Post, the channel has informed Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia that it no longer makes financial sense to produce the show in its current form.
Not A Good Thing: Dog Bites Martha Stewart
While preparing to leave her New York home earlier this week, Martha Stewart leaned down to whisper a goodbye into her dog Francesca's ear—and TMZ reports it's a move that landed her in the hospital! The domestic goddess startled her French bulldog, who was sleeping at the time, and says "She bolted upright with such force that she hit me in the face like a boxing glove hitting an opponent’s face. I was entirely startled and my neck snapped back. I felt a bit of whiplash as blood gushed forth from my split lip.” Stewart had her driver bring her to the hospital, where she received nine stitches. Nothing a few cocktails won't cure!
Video: Martha Stewart Gets Buzzed In The Burg
Ever curious what it would be like to get wasted with Martha Stewart? Pretty sure that's what these guys recently did when they took her to their favorite Williamsburg bar Dram on South 4th Street (later they put some food in her at Pies n' Thighs). Watch the below video to hear Martha talk about her love for "big round balls" (of ice!), living in the Mad Men era ("I knew several Don Drapers"), not being able to drink gin since it landed her on the bathroom floor, her love for vodka, and what she thinks of Picklebacks.
Cinco De Mayo: Where to Eat, Drink, Honor Battle of Puebla
It's that time again. Time to take out the tequila, teach yourself how to make guacamole (again), and stock up on limes for your Coronas. That's right, it's the anniversary of the triumphant Battle of Puebla in 1892! More commonly known as Cinco de Mayo in America, the unlikely victory over French forces is cause for celebration for Americans and Mexicans alike, if just for the excuse to don some crazy sombreros. Or if you're not into that, you could just say you're celebrating the half-anniversary of Guy Fawkes day. Click on the photos above for some restaurant and bar specials around the city in honor of the great victory.
Yankees Opening Day Through Martha Stewart's Eyes
Martha Stewart took a break from tweeting about bridal fashion, planting trees and her dogs to watch the Yankees' opening day yesterday. As the Yanks beat the Angels 7-5 Martha Stewart dutifully tweeted from her seats on the first base line, giving the folks at home a look at the view from what looks to be Section 17B. (Prices aren't even listed on the site!) Her section neighbors include Bloomberg, Alec Baldwin and "abunch of moguls." She gladly updated her followers with play-by-play action and commentary like, "score now 5-0 arod berated jane for not bringing me more often to the games obviously he realizes i am good luck!" Her tweeted photos also came with some delightful captions. Could this mean a possible career change to sportscaster? ESPN Sportscenter could use some distressed varnished sidetables.
Martha Goes to Brooklyn
Yesterday afternoon the Martha Stewart dropped by the Brooklyn Flea, causing a commotion and getting vendors worked up into a tizzy. It was a good thing! Martha says she loves Brooklyn, and it seems like the feeling might be mutual... except for some who sneered, calling her entourage "fucking ridiculous." Can we just file "Martha Stewart is at my designer flea market" as a Hall o' Fame White Whine?
Gadhafi To Stay With Trump?
The tabloid circus surrounding Moammer Gadhafi's first visit to American soil goes on and on and on. Now the Huffington Post claims that Gadhafi is planning to pitch his tent at the Westchester estate of Donald Trump. We have to admit we find this a bit astonishing, but times are tough for real estate moguls. A Trump spokesperson called this "absolutely false," but then qualifed, "He is not there to my knowledge." The Huffpost claimed that the deal might get scrapped if there was "bad publicity." Uh-oh.
Video: Martha Stewart Lounge Chairs Chopping Off Fingers!
Oh yes, it's time for more "Shame Shame Shame!" When we last left crusader Arnold Diaz at My Fox NY, he was unleashing his faux-populist outrage on the infamous "Drunken Negro Face Cookie" baker. And everyone was wondering, Arnie, how can you possibly top that? By moving up the food chain, of course, and revisiting one of his old targets: Martha Stewart, who he previously confronted about her line of glass patio tables and their funny tendency to shatter into a thousand jagged pieces.
Pierre Schaedelin, Chef
Following a set of mediocre reviews, Pierre Schaedelin was brought on last December as the new executive chef at Alain Ducasse’s Benoit. The 40-year-old, it was announced, would also be a partner in the restaurant, which is modeled after an archetypal bistro that’s been open in Paris since 1912 (Ducasse's restaurant group assumed ownership in 2005). Schaedelin has an old school French chef background, for sure—all terrines, torchons, and rabbit sausage. He’s also developed some serious media chops during the last decade, having first worked for Sirio Maccioni at Le Cirque and then as Martha Stewart’s personal chef. At Benoit the prices have come down—a two-course lunch is now $19; three courses are $24—and Schaedelin is happy about that. Above all, he seems to like talking about cooking more than anything else, and he does so in an unstuffy way—we spoke with him last week about the relaxing parts of Top Chef, tarte flambée, and diner food on Sundays.
Martha Stewart Just Tweet-Slapped You
Martha Stewart is on Twitter (though her page could use a little bit of design help—perhaps a lovely seersucker background for the upcoming spring season, or toile, which is always in season). Anywho, she's had a lot to say about the snow this week—particularly how we are all a bunch of pansies whilst in it (her words: "the snow is paralyzing New Yorkers—they are a bunch of wimps"). Then she started with the scaremongering, Tweeting that "New Yorkers are feeling sorry for themselves—the economy etc—but buck up. The worst is yet to come and it will not be snow." Martha just likes acting all hard because she did time. But don't get too down New Yorkers, Perez Hilton says when life hands you a snow-covered recession, you make recession cupcakes...and maybe Martha will have a recipe? [via Wonderwall]
Top Chefs Celebrate Faux Holiday Season
Last night Top Chef celebrated the holiday season, and even though the episode was filmed sometime in July (check out the cheftestants summertime gear)—Christmas miracles were abound! Or at least forced down viewer's throats like Sous-Vide Duck with avocado foam.
Feed Your Mind: The Warmest Room in the House
Now that the cold weather is likely here to stay, at least until the next freak 60 degree day, you might want to hunker down with a cozy-sounding book.
Ain't Nothing Like a Hound Dog: Uno Wins Westminster
Given the state of the Knicks and Rangers, the Garden hasn't heard cheers as resounding as it did last night during the Westminster Kennel Club Best in Show ceremony for some time. But a Beagle named Uno brought the house down, becoming the first ever of his breed to win Best in Show. The last time a beagle even made it to the final round was in 1939.
Extra, Extra
- Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a homicide on Boyland St. in Brooklyn, a person under a train at 116th St. and Douglass Blvd. in Manhattan, and a body found on West 91st St. in Manhattan.
- Martha Stewart is still mad over the public spat she had with Donald Trump in 2005 over her The Apprentice spin-off series. We bet she prepares a wonderful cold revenge dish.
- Police are searching for a man who attacked a 17-year-old woman in Jamaica, Queens, forcing her at knife point to a secluded area where he sexually assaulted her. The attacker may be the same man responsible for four other similar assaults recently.
Way Craftier Than We'll Ever Be
We were intrigued by an AP story that mentioned how on yesterday's The Martha Stewart Show, Stewart showed off a nativity scene she made while in jail. Therefore, we went to the show's website and found the clip, which turns out to be from 2006 (confirmed by a caption and the fact that Stewart's mother, who passed away this year, is in the audience).

Turkey Carving Innovations
According to Turkey Carving for Dummies, every year hundreds of thousands of people wind up in hospital emergency rooms as a result of kitchen accidents involving knives. Don’t become a statistic! In yesterday’s article about the best way to carve the turkey, the Times helpfully points out the wrong approach, to be read aloud in a southern accent: “One year the turkey took a long time to cook and I went to carve it...

What’s worth watching on food-related TV this week? This Wednesday on Kitchen Nightmares (9pm on Fox), Ramsay does his thing on Finn McCool’s in West Hampton. Are we the only ones who wonder if his advice actually does any good? Most places that he revisits after his makeover revert—at least in part—to their prior ways. But if you own a restaurant you want Ramsified, now’s your chance. Download an application to be featured on the...
TV Dinners: November 5-11
What’s worth watching on food-related TV this week? Next Sunday is the finale of The Next Iron Chef (9pm on the Food Network). Michael Ruhlman has a comment from Chef Chris Cosentino on his blog about the airplane episode—he was clearly getting crowded by cameras, but for him the crowding was to the degree that he couldn’t work, and he wanted to clarify that fact “now that 1/2 the country thinks i am an asshole.”...
Extra, Extra
Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a pediatric arrest on 5th Ave. near 117th St. in Manhattan, a person fatally struck by a train at 39th Ave. and 111th St. in Queens, and a submerged barge at the south end of the train tressel for the A line in Queens. Mayor Bloomberg doesn't just take the subway to work; he likes the Subway sandwich chain. "I love Subway sandwiches. I think they're a great deal,...
TV Dinners: October 15-21
A confession. In general, we’re not big Food Network Fans. We do make an exception for Iron Chef (it always sucks us in), and we love it’s latest incarnation. Last week on the premiere of The Next Iron Chef (9pm on the Food Network, Chef Traci Des Jardins got the ax, brought down by her salmon roe dessert (ick). Read the Amateur Gourmet's unique and often hilarious take on things on his blog on the Next Iron Chef site (“We all know the whole Iron Chef universe is a fabrication, right? That the chairman is an actor? What? You didn’t know that?”). Judge Michael Ruhlman is happy with episode one; says the kitchen was so hot during filming that one of the chefs had to be hospitalized afterwards for dehydration.
Feed Your Mind: More Fall Food Books
is considered a classic. It contains recipes such as Blood Cake with Fried Eggs, Tripe Gratin, and Crispy Pig’s Tail. Stuff like that. This isn’t stunt eating, Fear Factor-style, nor is Henderson’s food supposed to be particularly innovative, but it is. The chef’s “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing” approach to cooking simultaneously emphasizes frugality and simplicity. In some sense, that's almost unheard of these days.
