Did you carve a pumpkin early this week? And is it slowly becoming a shell of its Jack-o-lantern-ness? Before your pumpkin becomes an experiment in bacteria, why not take it to the Prospect Heights Community Farm Pumpkin Smash on Saturday! They say to "bring your rotten pumpkins to be composted," plus "there will be food and drinks and hot baked potatoes provided." Hot baked potatoes? In near-70 degree weather? Awesome! The event is from 2-5PM, at 252-256 St. Marks Ave. between Underhill and Vanderbilt Avenues.

The New York Times City section profiles Domenico DeMarco, who has operated Di Fara Pizza for 40 years. Although pizza has become fast food, he says, "[t]his one is slow food. Anything you do, when you do it too fast, it's no good." Amen to that.
