Last week, Doreen Giuliano revealed that, after transforming herself from 46-year-old Brooklyn mother to a sexy and single 30-something transplant from California, she recorded conversations with a juror who helped convict her son John Giuca of murder--and that the juror implied he should never have been on the case! Now those conversations are the basis for a motion to overturn the verdict filed by Giuca's lawyer yesterday. The NY Times reports that the motion says juror Jason "Allo failed to reveal to the court that he knew members of the so-called Ghetto Mafia, a gang that figured prominently in the trial...The court papers also accuse Mr. Allo of reading newspaper accounts during the trial, and of being 'the first one on the jury' to vote guilty, because of information he had gathered outside the courtroom." Allo has denied the claims and the Brooklyn DA's office, whose prosecution Giuliano and even the murder victim's family have criticized, says it "will carefully review the papers and will have nothing to say until that process is completed.”

Today, the Times, Post and Daily News look at one devoted mother's fight to prove her son's innocence. Doreen Giuliano, whose son John Giuca was convicted in the murder of a college student, transformed herself from a 46-year-old married Brooklyn mother to a sexy 30-something California transplant in order to catch the eye of a juror from her son's trial (see before and after pictures at left).

Almost two years ago, Mark Fisher's body was found on Argyle Road, "wrapped in a blanket, shot five times in the torso and dumped near the curb," after an evening of partying. It was a mysterious incident, a white college student from the NJ suburbs and a Connecticut college found murdered in Brooklyn, but now a trial has begun and it seems that Fisher was killed for a number of reasons: Sitting on someone's table (a sign of disrespect), to "bolster" a fledling street gang's credibility and/or $20 from an ATM. Antonio Russo and John Guica are accused of murdering Fisher, with Guica the "so-called Tony Soprano" of the "Ghetto Mafia" (it was his table that Fisher sat on while drunk). Apparently Fisher had met up with an old friend who eventually introduced him to Guica; a group of people went to Guica's house to stay over because some had missed a train. (The Times had the drama of the prosecutor's description of the moment: "That's when the worlds very slowly began to collide, and fate began to play its unfortunate hand.") Russo and Guica also allegedly said they didn't like the "preppy college kid"; none of the articles expressly describe any class or race differences, but that seems to be the subtext.
