Bye Bye Abramović: Artist Closes Out In Style

             + 1 more

Last night Marina Abramović and her VIPs gathered at MoMA for a closing celebration of the artist's retrospective there. Our invite must have gotten lost in the mail (it seems superfans like Paco Blancas and Josephine Decker also didn't earn their way in), but here's a look at who was in attendance, including Courtney Love and her new face. more ›

Marina's Unexpected Nude Speaks Out

Marina's Unexpected Nude Speaks Out

Marina Abramović may not be present at MoMA anymore, but her internet presence will never die. We got in touch with one of the performance artist's final (and controversial) face-to-face guests, who until now has just been referred to as the streaker. 29-year-old Josephine Decker (who camped out to be first in line) did indeed strip down for Marina during her last day of "The Artist Is Present," but why? Here's what she told us: more ›

The Artist Has Left The Building

The Marina Abramović retrospective has now officially ended, with all of the prolific performance artist's pieces—the naked strangers, the skeleton draped over flesh—taking their leave of MoMA, along with the artist herself. We already heard about some of the closing day craziness, but photographer Jim Kiernan was on hand and provided us with some more inside info (and illegal photographs!). more ›

The Artist Is Present—Through Monday

Marina Abramović's performance art retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art closes on Memorial Day, which means if you've been wanting to sit across from her, you'll have to go today, tomorrow or Monday. We wonder if superfan Paco Blancas will be there for a final good-bye. more ›

James Franco's NYU Film Filled With Male Genitalia

James Franco's NYU Film Filled With Male Genitalia

James Franco's NYU film school thesis project has finally seen the light of day, and word is it's heavy on the male genitalia. A source told Life & Style, "It pretty much had no plot and featured men in clown masks, men in dog masks, and shots of male genitalia urinating. I think everyone was shocked by how much male nudity there was." more ›

The Artist Is Present... For VIPs

The Artist Is Present... For VIPs

So this line at MoMA to sit in front of Marina Abramović is really long, you know, FYI. You pretty much have to clear your schedule and be prepared to wait around for at least a few hours... unless, of course, you are famous. Or so we hear. The other day James Franco was first to sit in front of the performance artist, and we're pretty sure he—or Lou Reed, or Sharon Stone—didn't stand in line like regular museum patrons. Like the Paco Blancases of the world. more ›

Marina Superfan Speaks Out

Marina Superfan Speaks Out

For those closely monitoring MoMA's Flickr account, which gets updated with portraits of each visitor that sits across from Marina Abramović, some familiar faces have popped up. But today we're not talking James Franco, we're talking Paco Blancas, a NYC-based make-up artist who has sat across from the legendary performance artist 14 times (and counting). One of the museum's interns tracked him down recently and grilled the (former) mystery man on his penchant for popping up in front of Marina. more ›

Franco Faces Abramović At MoMA

Franco Faces Abramović At MoMA

The latest famous face to sit in front of Marina Abramović at MoMA was none other than James Franco, who got up bright n' early this morning to be first in line to sit across from the performance artist. (Though we're guessing that celebrities get to cut the line—we hear Hans Gruber was first yesterday.) Wonder if Franco lasted longer than Lou Reed's 9 minutes... more ›

Rumor: Lady Gaga/Marina Abramović Staring Contest

Rumor: Lady Gaga/Marina Abramović Staring Contest

According to the Twitter rumor mill, Lady Gaga entered MoMA a little bit after noon today and may be waiting her turn to sit down in front of legendary performance artist Marina Abramović. She's allegedly with her artist pal Terence Koh, but while some are reporting they have seen the duo circling around Abramović, others haven't spotted her in the area at all. Maybe she's just grabbing the junk of Marina's naked minions until her turn comes up? Stay tuned! (You can watch the live feed here... hopefully she won't get stage fright.) more ›

Squeeze Through Two Naked Strangers at MoMA

Warning: most of this gallery is NSFW! So of course that means someone got naked in the name of art, and it's making museum-goers a little uncomfortable. The Marina Abramović restrospective, which traces the artist's prolific career, only just opened at the MoMA yesterday and it's already offending people! The artist isn't scared to show a little skin, nothing new there, but one part of the installation has patrons squeezing through two naked performers. Awkward. However, the Yugoslavian-born performance artist wouldn't be doing her job if she didn't make her audience experience something they haven't before, no? more ›
