"Jeter? I hardly knew her!" It's surprising that people don't hear that lame joke more often, because Yankees shortstop and hardwood-swinging single Derek Jeter has more notches on his bedpost than World Series rings--many more. The Yankees may be sucking this season, but fans may take vicarious pleasure in the fact that the six position is still popular with the ladies. Let's go to the slideshow, courtesy of Maxim magazine.

As if lighting up the Empire State Building wasn't enough, there's no harm in wearing a big fat engagement ring to up the publicity of your new album.
On Tuesday, the Empire State Building was green for Earth Day. On May 5, it'll be yellow for Project Sunshine, a non-profit that offers free social, educational and recreational programs for children with medical challenges. But tomorrow, the Empire State Building will be purple, pink and white in honor of Mariah Carey.
This summer we saw the man behind Davey's Dance Blog entertain passers-by on the Brooklyn Bridge with his impromptu moves. Today, here's something a little more seasonal.

You know those screaming kids who stand outside of 1515 Broadway in Times Square when they should really be in school? They have signs declaring their love for someone we've never heard of and their high pitched shrills are often heard below 14th. They are there because of MTV's TRL (Total Request Live), today's version of what we used to call the Top 5 at 5 (when we actually had to call in to place our vote, because there was no texting or online voting yet).
Mmm, there is nothing like it when the NY Times dips its toes into celebrity journalism. Sure, their story about what celebrities do when they buy or sell homes had some interesting new facts, but it also makes Gothamist feels less dirty than when we decide to get that issue of US Weekly for a subway ride (it takes 10 minutes to read!). This is our favorite anecdote:
Dolly Lenz, a vice chairman of Prudential Douglas Elliman in New York, said she once advised Mariah Carey to arrive for an interview with a Manhattan building's co-op board "dressed for a funeral." She appeared "in a halter top and mini-mini-miniskirt," Ms. Lenz recalled.Continue reading "Hilarious Celebrity Real Estate Escapades"

We're not normally into celebrities, but ever since her appearance at Times Square on New Year's, we can't get our mind off Mariah Carey and her rapidly ballooning weight. We were watching in high-definition, and it was impossible to look away-- every dent in her huge thighs and massive breasts was right there, in stunning detail. But hey-- lots of guys like a girl with a badonkadonk, a little junk in her trunk, a little jelly, so in our opinion, Mariah's got nothing to worry about. In fact, we'd like to see her go all out-- Kirstie Alley style-- check out the full version of Hollywood Rag's fat-morphs above to get an idea of what we're talking about. [Related: more fat celebrity morphs.]
So during the strike the streets felt really crowded. We all can agree on that. But has anybody else noticed that the streets still feel really crowded? Because apparently they have been.
The city is starting to brace itself for New Year's, with sanitation crews and the police at the ready. The weather is expected to break 50 degrees on Saturday, which means it won't be a New Year's Freezing Eve for once. Which also means insane crowds. (There is rain in the forecast, but that's supposed to clear up but hte evening). Have you rushed to the store to buy champagne, noisemakers, and low-fat food (for your resolutions)? What are you planning? Staying in, going to parties, heading to Times Square? Tell us!
Yes, you read correctly. Gothamist has discovered the next best thing to come from Long Island since Mariah Carey . . . okay fine, since Entenmann's cakes (it’s like they are made with love). The find was made on a journey to the North Fork. We stumbled upon it since Harbes Farm was closed and we needed to drown away the sorrow that there would be no roasted corn dipped in hot butter on our trip (It pains Gothamist to even recount the horror).
There's a hilarious item in Ben Widdicombe's Gatecrasher about Mariah Carey turning down the chance to perform on the Today show, opting instead to promote her upcoming album, The Emancipation of Mimi, on Good Morning America. Widdicombe writes, "The source laughs, 'They think the album will be so huge that the 3,000 people Rockefeller Plaza holds won't be enough. Times Square can hold 10,000.'" Gothamist is laughing also, unless Carey's record label is hiring 7,000 extras. At her wedding to Tommy Mottola, Gothamist's friend's younger sister was recruited by a friend's mother/Sony executive to be a flower girl for the wedding, so Mariah could have tons of little flower girls surrounding her, so you never know. Gothamist would pick the Today show over Good Morning, America, if only because the Today staff can more convincingly act like they like some pop artist's music; we're still not buying Diane Sawyer's act.

Semi-related, via Peter: There were rumors that Billie Joe from Green Day had died in a car accident on Friday, but they were untrue.
Little 12 year old old Brianna LaHara, sued by RIAA for downloading songs off Kazaa, is going to settle with RIAA for $2000. The Daily News' exclusive reports that LaHara's mother agreed to pay up (and said Brianna will not be file sharing anytime soon). RIAA was looking for up to $150,000 for the 1000 songs she downloaded, so maybe $2000 in the scheme of things didn't look so bad to LaHara's mother
Looks like "alternative" music festival Field Day Fest is happening at Giants Stadium, at least according to Ticketmaster. Gothamist thinks it's funny how last weekend, Giants Stadium held Zootopia, the pop-hit heavy concert thrown by Z100 that had, according to their site, "Aerosmith, Kelly Clarkson, TLC, Mariah Carey, Ja Rule, Ashanti, Jewel, Third Eye Blind, Wayne Wonder, Simple Plan, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Daniel Bedingfield, JC Chasez, Bowling For Soup, Ginuwine... your American Idol's Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken, PLUS special guest-hosts BRITNEY SPEARS and LISA MARIE PRESLEY!"
Thinking about disgraced former New York Times journalist, Jayson Blair reportedly in a hospital for "personal problems," reminded us of the time Gothamist was "in the hospital" in 1999. Other people who have been in a hospital for personal problems or needed to go: Mariah Carey, Billy Joel, Courtney Love, Anne Heche, Winona Ryder. Rick Moody, author of The Ice Storm and Purple America, went to a mental hospital for a while. Gothamist once joked with him that it was because of living in New Jersey.
The Today Show has announced some of the performers of its Summer Concert Series, which stretches into the fall. By the looks of it, many more names will be announced later on. The Today Show also does "One Hit Wonders" type themes on some days.
