Yesterday passengers were lucky not to fall from the M train's elevated tracks in Brooklyn, as one of the subway's doors opened before the train had fully pulled into the Marcy Avenue station. NY1 reports that yesterday evening one train never fully pulled into the station, but the doors opened and some passengers attempted to get off. Witness Maryanne Lebron said, "They were rushing off and thank God the first passenger that was getting off was able to realize before falling down that there was no platform so he held on and the three people behind him pretty much stopped short, which kind of like saved their lives." Where have we seen this before?

Morton's Stakes Claim in Brooklyn
By the end of next year, downtown Brooklyn will have a new upscale steakhouse to rival Peter Luger in Williamsburg; it was recently announced that Morton’s will be occupying the ground floor of a new Marriott annex tower on Adams Street. Hollywood Blows Up The Brooklyn Bridge
Earlier this year, I Am Legend, the latest Will Smith extravaganza took over the Brooklyn Bridge. Girl's Fatal Run to School Bus in Williamsburg
A little girl eager to board her school bus was hit by a car on Marcy Avenue near Lorimer. A BMW fatally struck 5 year old Chana Friedlander yesterday morning, and she was laid to rest in the afternoon, in keeping with Orthodox Jewish tradition. A few things about the accident raise a couple questions. The bus driver says the flashing lights were on and the stop sign was extended to warn other drivers. However, the BMW's driver, Trisha Thomas, says the there were no warnings. What's more, police say there would not have been enough room for the BMW SUV to pass between the bus and other parked cars with the stop sign extended.

Appreciating The Marcy Avenue Stop
Gothamist likes these photographs that Bluejake took at Marcy Avenue a lot. Because we tend to disappear beneath the surface for our subways, the outdoor stops always seem more exotic to us (plus, the urine smell gets washed away by the rain). But outdoor stops abound through the five boroughs. And, here, Marcy Avenue seems a little like Chicago. Who knew?
