Inside Ginny's Supper Club, The Swank New Joint Under The Red Rooster

As if Marcus Samuelsson's Red Rooster Harlem wasn't hot enough, the big shot chef and his partner Andrew Chapman went ahead and opened a rather gorgeous music, drinking, and dining destination under their popular soul food-inspired restaurant. The swank nightclub, called Ginny's Supper Club, is a deluxe homage to the swinging clubs (think "Cotton") that were all the rage in the roaring '20s. And it looks like they spared no expense: Ginny (it was a popular name in the Jazz Age) arrives at the party decked out with leather banquettes, hand-carved wooden arches, and an 18-seat bar sprawled across the back of the room. The staff ain't hard on the eyes either—take a look around! more ›

Explore Harlem On A Free (Sort Of) Red Rooster Bicycle

Harlem—so hot right now! So hot that you will soon have the privilege of rolling up your pantleg to discover all of the neighborhood's hidden treasures via a good old-fashioned velocipede; after, that is, you've plunked down $34 for a steak at celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson's restaurant Red Rooster Harlem. more ›

Red Rooster Lands Obama DNC Fundraising Dinner

Red Rooster Lands Obama DNC Fundraising Dinner

As if glowing reviews in the Times and the Post weren't enough good news for chef Marcus Samuelsson's Harlem restaurant Red Rooster, now it is set to join the ranks of Il Mulino and Blue Hill at Stone Barns with an Obama Presidential seal of approval. Later this month the President will be hosting a small "six-table, high-dollar" fundraiser at the Lenox Avenue restaurant with the $30,800-a-head tickets going directly into the DNC's coffers—those seats are almost half the cost of a recently sold private dinner for ten at Babbo! more ›

An Ode To Old Times Square

An Ode To Old Times Square

Celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson just opened his Harlem eatery Red Rooster and so submitted himself before Daily Intel's 21 Questions feature and, well, he had a doozy of a first trip to the city! When asked if he prefers the old or new Times Square he replied: "I love old Times Square; it's the first place I got to when I was 18 and landed in New York. They were filming a music video with Eric B and Rakim, with LL Cool J and some other guys in the background. People stole our bags, but despite that, I remember feeling like I had arrived." more ›

Feel the Heat

Feel the Heat

If you're like a third of the people we know right now (ourselves included), you've got a cold. Although the medical community encourages increasing one's fluid intake when the plague sets in, it's unlikely that boozy drinks are on the list of approved beverages. Regardless, we've been craving warm, cozy drinks all week. more ›

What's Cookin' for Fall

This week's New York Mag runs down some of this season's upcoming restaurant openings -- better start planning now. We've already given you the scoop on Will Goldfarb's Picnick and Peter Hoffman's Back Forty, due in September and October respectively, but we're looking forward to some of the other spots highlighted by Rob and Robin, especially noodle shop Bun, from Mai House chef Michael Huynh and his wife, Thao Nguyen, and El Quinto Pino, from the Tia Pol gang. more ›

On the Plate: Upcoming Food and Wine Events

On the Plate: Upcoming Food and Wine Events

We love a good birthday party, especially when it means cheap tacos. To celebrate their 20th year in business, San Loco will be offering beef, bean or rice hard tacos topped with cheddar, lettuce and sauce for a mere 20 cents at all four of their locations. The only downside -- there's a five-taco limit. We think you'll survive. From 11 a.m. "until supplies last." more ›

You Say Crayfish, I Say Crawfish

You Say Crayfish, I Say Crawfish

Either way, you'll get your fill this week. Time Out New York reports that Marcus Samuelsson of Aquavit is serving up the crawdads in a variety of dishes, including tacos, sushi, and crayfish and foie-gras skewers. Although the full crawfish tasting menu will run you $90 for dinner, there are more modestly priced options -- lunch for $25 and dinner (not the full tasting menu) for $35. Call for more information and reservations. more ›

NY Post Picks Top Bachelors

NY Post Picks Top Bachelors

The Post tallies up the city's most eligible bachelors (and, yes, the usual suspects are there, like Derek Jeter, Rocco DiSpirito and Adrien Brody as well as some not so usual, like Billy Crudup – who knew the dump the soon to be mother of my child type which is hot to Page Six and homophobe Jeremy Shockey; Gothamist, though, is thrilled with the inclusion of chef Marcus Samuelsson, sigh). The Post also adds what their pros and cons would be. A few examples: more ›

America's first televised Restaurant

America's first televised Restaurant

Gothamist cannot wait to go to "Restaurant," the new restaurant/reality series from Rocco DiSpirito (Union Pacific), Mark Burnett (Survivor), and NBC (Channel 4 here in NY). There's nothing we like more than food and a little insanity. The Times Styles section looks what seems to be a hilarious casting/hiring process, as employees need to be competent but cute. But in a city of actors who work as watiers, Gothamist has to hand it to the genius of Mark Burnett to capitalize on it. more ›
