Jagr and Rozsival put the Rangers up 2-0 in the first before Eric Belanger cut the lead in half. The Rangers opened another two-goal lead in the second when Marcel Hossa made it 3-1, but Shane Hnidy cut the lead to 1 again midway through the period.

Marcel Hossa scored his fifth goal in seven games to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead halfway through the first period and the Rangers played solid defense keeping the injured Henrik Lundqvist from working too much.

The Devils jumped out to an early lead off of a John Madden goal, but New York took a 2-1 lead in the third after Petr Prucha scored his ninth goal of the year. Thomas Pock was called for tripping with just under five minutes left and the Devils converted to tie the game.

It was a night when Henrik Lundqvist showed the form that made him the king of the Garden last spring. Facing a feisty Carolina team, Lundqvist made several huge saves early in the game and propelled the Rangers to a 4-0 victory.

If the Rangers are going to be successful this season they are going to have to stop taking so many penalties. Thursday night the Rangers committed eleven penalties including two that put them in five on three situations in their 4-3 loss to Montreal.
