Today, Mayor Bloomberg closed the case on an enduring mystery: The odd maple syrup-like scent that would waft into the city. It happened once... then twice... and then enough times to warrant a 30 Rock spoof and then another half dozen times. Bloomberg and other city officials announced the smell came from a NJ factory that "processed fenugreek seeds to produce flavors and fragrances."
