The Islanders survived on Thursday, outlasting the Maple Leafs 5-4 to get their second win in a row.

  • Nets 97, Bucks 95: Do the Nets even know how they won this game? They didn't get a typical night from Richard Jefferson or an outstanding effort from Vince Carter. What they did have was great shot selection (50 percent from the floor) and great defense by Josh Boone on Milwaukee's big men. Jason Kidd's 15 assists didn't hurt either.
  • The New York Rangers have hit a speed bump, coming out flat in two-straight games, getting some bad goaltending and losing badly at home. Thursday night’s 6-2 loss was even more disappointing than Tuesday’s because the Rangers rallied in this game and then fell apart. Down 2-0 in the first the Rangers came back with two goals off of the power play to even things up heading into the second. But, Toronto took the...

Carolina 4 Rangers 0: Things got ugly early and the Rangers never recovered. Carolina got two goals in the first, the second off of Ranger’s skate to jump out to an early lead and New York could not muster any offense against Cam Ward. Ward dominated New York getting big saves when they were needed and the Rangers could not muster an offensive attack in the game. The Hurricanes added two goals in the third...

Celtics 112, Nets 101: Early indications have the road to the NBA Finals going through Boston. If the Nets entertain any hopes of becoming a legit contender, they'll have to find a better measuring stick. As if the Nets didn't have enough concerns about Vince Carter, their star left the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury. At least he had 17 points when he left. Beating up on the Eastern Conference may...

The current Devils are one of the best teams in the NHL over the past 12 seasons, but that meant nothing as they opened up their new building with a loss. The Senators blew open a 1-1 game after two with three goals in the third and the Devils fell to 3-6-1 on the season. Luckily, they have a lot of home games coming up at “The Rock”.

  • Panthers 3, Devils 0: Starting a season on a nine-game road trip is tough, but the Devils should be playing better than this. Getting shut out by the listless Panthers doesn't seem like the best statement. Only five more games before the first home game! New Jersey, at 1-3, is off to its worst start since the 2001-02 season. The Panthers' win was their first this season.
  • Braves 5, Mets 3: In a pitching match-up of two former teammates, it was the Braves that came out on top yesterday. John Smoltz won his first game of the season and the Mets and Tom Glavine both picked up their first losses. It seemed like everything that was going right for the Mets in their first four games suddenly vanished. Glavine struggled, the team left 13 on base, and there were costly errors. Carlos Delgado, who said he had issues seeing balls all day, dropped a ball thrown to him in the first, and Shawn Green missed a fly-ball in the sixth because of the high winds. Those two errors led to three unearned runs. The Mets had their chance in the 9th inning with only one out and the tying runs on base, but they couldn't come through.
  • Devil Rays 7, Yankees 6: This had about what you expect for a game played in football weather. It had errors, wild pitches, face masks and more. The Yankees played the uglier game, spoiling Andy Pettitte's return and splitting the season-opening series with the Devil Rays. They host Baltimore on Friday.
  • It doesn’t make up for the NLCS, but the Mets got 2007 off to a great start, pummeling Chris Carpenter and getting a great start from Tom Glavine. Paul LoDuca had 3 RBI’s and Carlos Delgado had 2, while Shawn Green got off to a good start with a 2-for-4 night at the plate.

  • Lightning 4, Islanders 3 (OT): This result hurt the Rangers, too. Instead of one team taking two points, the two clubs playing split three unevenly. That means the Lightning got to move further ahead of the Rangers in the seeding race, but the Islanders still got a point to keep nipping at their same-state rivals' heels. A breakdown in overtime cost the Islanders a chance to settle this one in a shootout.
  • With Jamal Crawford out for the year and David Lee and Nate Robinson sidelined, the Knicks went some different lineups and some different players and it all worked out. Mardy Collins, Malik Rose and Steve Francis all made significant contributions while Quentin Richardson led the team in rebounds to go along with his 30 points. Stephon Marbury added 34 and Eddy Curry had 22 in the win.

  • Islanders 3, Maple Leafs 2 (SO): Give the credit to Rick DiPietro. He made plenty of third period saves to get the game to overtime and a shootout before the Islanders could pull it out. The Islanders had been 0-10-1 in their last 11 trips to Toronto, and they got outshot 16-1 in the third period. They might not be so lucky the next time.

  • Maple Leafs 2, Rangers 1: If the Rangers want to make the playoffs, they might have to finish ahead of the Leafs, another team hovering around that eighth-place spot in the Eastern Conference. Desperate comeback attempts like the Rangers' aren't helped when they take penalites in the final 90 seconds. That means pulling the goalie only gets a team to even strength and doesn't create an extra skater.
  • Toronto 9 Rangers 2: New York tried to live up to the Knicks’ example and fought, but they were no match for the Maple Leafs. Toronto further humiliated MSG ownership with a ridiculous win over the Rangers.

    - Rockets 97, Knicks 90: The state of the Knicks is so sad that their former coach has more wins at Madson Square Garden with his new team than the Knicks' current head coach does. Jeff Van Gundy is 7-1 against the Knicks with four consecutive wins at MSG and Isiah Thomas is 1-5 at home. Yao Ming led all scorers with 26 points and Tracy McGrady added 24. Jamal Crawford led the Knicks with 25 points off the bench while Stephon Marbury had a measly three points in less than 20 minutes of play. In unbelievable news, Nate Robinson (5'9") blocked one of Yao's (7'6") shots. Despite pulling out all the stops for the Chinese basketball fans in the area (BD Wong sang the National Anthem), The Garden was not full.

-Cincinnati 30 Rutgers11: The dream is over in Piscataway. The Scarlet Knights not only lost, but they were humiliated in a hideous loss to the Bearcats.

New Yorkers can find some comfort - at least there's one good thing to watch at Madison Square Garden. Last night, in a 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs, Jaromir Jagr picked up his 100th point of the season and reaching a milestone in Ranger history. Only five other Rangers have reached the century mark before. Henrik Lundqvist is near his own Ranger record. With three more victories, he will become the first rookie goalie to reach 30 wins.
