Would-be Empire State Building jumper, Jeb Corliss (pictured), isn't in the clear yet. Last year's decision from Supreme Court Justice Michael Ambrecht to dismiss the charges against him was overturned yesterday when The Supreme Court Appellate Division decided to bring the case back to life.

New York City is getting safer and safer. Well, at least Manhattan is. Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau told reporters yesterday that there have only been 65 murders in the borough this year, down 40% from last year. When Morgenthau took office in 1975, the borough had 648 murders, accounting for almost 40% of the city's total. The 65 homicides this year account for just 14% of the city total. The 88-year-old DA attributed the drop to "excellent work done by the police and prosecutors." Police stats project the entire city with 500 fewer murders this year, the lowest number since 1963.

Robert Morgenthau's stranglehold on the position of Manhattan District Attorney has lasted 33 years but today's Post tittered that he was mulling an "early exit." Page Six reported that a "well-connected legal source" said the 88-year-old DA was orchestrating a retirement to have Cyrus Vance Jr. installed for a few years. Apparently Morgenthau wants Vance Jr., once an assistant DA, in place to block his former protegee and 2005 Democratic primary opponent Leslie Crocker Snyder,...

The Manhattan District Attorney's office announced that the Reverend David Ajemian was arrested on charges of stalking and threatening Conan O'Brien. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston placed Ajemian, a 46-year-old priest in Stoneham, Massachusetts, on leave. The DA's office says that Ajemian had sent letters (some on parish letterhead!) to O'Brien's offices at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and home, contacted his parents, and tried to attend tapings of Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He was...

Fred Thompson was never an actual Manhattan District Attorney, he just played one TV. He used the same medium to announce that he was running for President by pursuing the Republican nomination Wednesday night on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Unlike California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who announced his gubernatorial candidacy by appearing on The Tonight Show in person, Thompson made his announcement via a taped message that Leno aired. Speculation about the possibility of Thompson's imminent announcement has been growing recently.

but can he still be found guilty of being really stupid?

Gothamist is filing this story in the "Subway," "Crazy," and "We Can't Believe It" files: A 23 year old Brooklyn man was arrested for kissing and licking the feet of female subway riders. The Daily News calls Joseph Weird "the Licking Lothario" and says that he was caught last night when a woman rebuffed his advances on an E train Thursday. And then the police connected him to other cases where women were approached by a man "slobbering" over their feet; eight women positively ID'd him in lineups. More of the details:

"He would grab women by their ankles, then kiss and lick their feet. A real sicko," a police source said.

Oh, Mayor Mike. The Campaign Finance Board has its Finance Summary online now and, surprise, Bloomberg is once again set to outspend his competition by leaps and bounds. Of the $57 million total raised for all the campaigns in the city besides the Brooklyn and Manhattan District Attorney races (thats more than 200 candidates) Bloomberg has 40%. That's $23.6 million bucks that Bloomberg has given his own campaign. That's a lot of money, but the question still remains if its enough for Bloomie to keep the election a "snooze" for the next three months so he can stay in office. And just as interesting, will he outspend his record breaking $69 million from the 2001 election?

No matter who wins the election this fall, we must say that the Manhattan D.A.'s site is one of the best ways to lose about four hours of time. As for the make-believe D.A.'s, we find Arthur Branch overbearing and Nora Lewin was pretty forgettable. Which leaves us with the indomitably weary Adam Schiff, played by Steven Hill, almost in constant, "Hell, who are you amateurs?" mode with his staff. And Shiff was apparently based on...Robert Morgenthau.
