Three people were shot inside a popular Mexican restaurant in Brooklyn ast night. The incident occurred around 9:30PM at Tacos 2004 Viva Mexico restaurant; the victims were taken to Lutheran Medical center, where one was pronounced dead (the other two are in stable condition).

Sigh. Blocks from where a man was killed in a hit-and-run on Friday, a 65-year-old Brooklyn woman was fatally struck by a livery cab yesterday morning. The Daily News reports that Barbara Tjornhom had been headed home from church when a driver, making a right at 6th Avenue and 52nd Street in Sunset Park, hit her. Tjornhom died at Lutheran Medical Center.

Two sisters were hit by an SUV that "barreled down Richards Street" in Brooklyn yesterday evening. The girls had been grocery shopping with their mother, who had been pushing the grocery cart and was not hurt. The family was apparently steps away from their building door.

A 62-year-old woman was attacked in her Gerritsen Beach home when two masked men pushed their way in. WNBC 4 reports that the woman's husband ran downstairs to help fight off the attackers, who fled and left the scene in a black Jeep.

An argument escalated into arson and then a murder-suicide, all in front of a small child, in Borough Park early yesterday morning. After setting their apartment on fire, police say that Christopher Flynn shot his girlfriend Christina Scarabaggio and then turned the gun on himself. Scarabaggio's 4-year-old daughter Bianca Perez was found crying over her mother's body outside.

A man driving a Ford Explorer fatally hit a 77-year-old woman crossing 22nd Street at Fourth Avenue yesterday afternoon. According to the Post, a minivan first clipped Jozefa Dzwiga, "but then, a Ford Explorer swerved around the van and ran over" her.

An off-duty police officer was raped in her Bay Ridge home last night. Police believe that the attacker entered her apartment through a window or door. The victim described him as being a white man wearing a mask; the attacker also threatened her with a knife.

Women abandoning their newborns to the elements is one of those terrible stories we unfortunately hear far too often. When a Brooklyn woman was being questioned by the police yesterday about the discovery of an infant wrapped in a plastic bag on the back porch of her family's home, it sounded like just another tragic but familiar story.

Yesterday morning, Pamela Haahr-Oribe was jogging near Third Avenue and Bergen Street when a bus hit her. The Daily News reports she had slipped on snow around 8:40AM before a Bestway Coach bus collided into her. Haahr-Oribe suffered head injuries and is in critical condition at Lutheran Medical Center.

In the otherwise bucolic Brooklyn neighborhood of Dyker Heights (especially at Christmas with all the elaborate Christmas setups), a man was beaten and shot yesterday afternoon in what police believe was a road rage incident. George Fattakhov and a friend were driving around in their Lexus around 66th Street and 10th Avenue when the incident occurred. The passenger told the NY Times what happened:

As the two were driving through Dyker Heights, a shiny white Cadillac Escalade abruptly cut them off. Heated words were exchanged, but after a few moments Mr. Fattakhov drove off. As he and his friend drove away, they noticed the Cadillac following. At a red light, the driver of the Cadillac — described as a white man with a dark ponytail — jumped out with a bat and swung at Mr. Fattakhov’s car.

Saturday afternoon, a woman driving a Ford Focus swerved to avoid a bicyclist at Boston Road and 169th Street in the Bronx. But she ended up hitting a Con Ed worker who had been working on an underground feeder cable. Forty year old Yuen Mun was pinned against a building (the picture of the crashed car is pretty grisly) and later died from his injuries. The police classified the incident as an accident, but his family is angry that the 62 year old driver was not charged. His brother-in-law says, "We just want justice and for the truth to come out."

As the biggest city in the country, different New York City hospitals are claiming babies born in their respective maternity wards are the the 300 millionth American. The NY Post had a graphic of three babies - all coming in at 7:46AM yesterday. There's baby Emanuel Plata born in Elmhurst Hospital. Then there's baby Zoe Emile Hudson at New York Presbyterian Cornell. And teeny Joana Palaguachi, born in Flushing Hospital. Newsday also offers a fourth baby into the mix: Mystique Alyzha Agueda, born at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn. All hospitals are bragging, but Newsday found out some sobering news: Census Bureau spokesman Stephen Buckner says, "These are not actual counts, which makes it impossible to actually identify a 300 milllionth American." Well, all of these babies are number 300 million in our book.

If there was ever a story that could remind people that soliciting hookers is not a good idea, it would have to be this one: Mushtaq Azmat was shot in the head when the pimp of the prostitute he was, uh, spending time with, tried to rob him. But in the course of those heated moments, the pimp was caught in the gunfire of his associates and died from a chest wound. The NY Post describes how the victim and a friend met the hookers:

Azmat Mushtaq, 19, and Muhammad Usman, 20, met the women Monday night at a Midtown gyro stand and paired off to have sex in Mushtaq's white Infiniti, police sources said.
