Many diehard dumpster divers would delightedly devote a down day to digging for a diamond in the disposable rough. But for 39-year-old Queens rubbish remover Nick DiMola, he was actually hired for a task that led him to discovering "treasure in another man's trash," treasure worth over $16,000 and all his to keep. DiMola was brought in almost five years ago to clean out the apartment of the late abstract artist Clinton Hill, who despite his name had lived in SoHo. After keeping one barrel of Hill's Mexican artifacts stored in a warehouse for years, DiMola recently decided to have it appraised and learned of the their high price tag. The Ridgewood man thinks that he'll sell the pricey art, telling the News, "I don't see the beauty in this, to be honest with you. I like things about history, but this pottery doesn't grab me." More surprising than the cleaner's good fortune is that the foundation formed by Hill's friends and family are not fighting him for possession of the goods. A lawyer for the group said, "If he is given a contract by the owner of property to remove and dispose of certain things, if the owner makes the mistake, that's the way it is. I'm not happy for him."

A little kitten survived not only being thrown from a truck but also being trapped in the wheel well of another car in Staten Island. The Post reports that the black-and-white 8-week-old tabby, named Lucky after her ordeal, was spotted by Family Court Judge Catherine DiDomenico. (Video of the super adorable cat after the jump.) DiDomenico was driving on Hylan Boulevard when a truck driver in front of her threw the kitten out the window. The stopped her car—which other drivers were not pleased about—to look for the kitten, "I looked down. I looked to the left. I looked to the right. I didn't see the kitten," but she spotted the kitten behind the left wheel. DiDomenico said, "As my wheel spun, she jumped into the wheel well and her claw became stuck in the suspension. Clearly she was very lucky. She is one brave kitty. This kitten defied an act of brutality." The NYPD Emergency Service Unit help extract Lucky, who was given a clean bill of health and is up for adoption at Staten Island Animal Care & Control in Tottenville. And the cops are still looking for the truck driver.

A man breaking into a van called the police when he noticed strange materials inside--the Post reports the van was "filled with gas cans and Styrofoam cups containing a mysterious white substance with protruding wires and switches." The van had been parked on Sunset Park, Brooklyn block for a month, and the would-be robber drove the van to a desolate location and then "called a cop he knows from his run-ins with the law." The NYPD anti-terror task force examined the car and a source says cops probably won't charge him with robbery
