Action adventure, animated sci-fi, iconic '80s actresses and French sexual intrigue—this weekend is a good one for movie going in New York. Draw your swords landlubbers, Gore Verbinski's sequel to his bombastic film based on an amusement park ride is out this weekend, . In this installment, shot at the same time as the forthcoming part III, Johnny Depp's brilliant Jack Sparrow searches for Davy Jones's chest to free himself from some sort of curse. There's a boat-load of twisty-turning plot in this 2 hour and a half movie but fortunately there's also tons of great action, Kiera Knightley looking adorable in pirate gear and a huge tentacled man eating beast. So basically, something for everyone.

Hudson River Park also starts its outdoor film series, RiverFlicks, this week. Films begin at dusk (generally between 8-8:30pm), there will be free popcorn and beverages available for purchase.

Last Octoober, the Daily News ran two articles (1, 2) about how Boomerang cub was doing - all while damning the Post's stupidity. The Daily News also made a big deal of raising $30,000 for the animal reserve, but the reserve's lawyer says, "I'm not aware of any money they've raised. Do you believe everything you read in the Daily News." Of course, that quote was in the Post. And while Gothamist just wants to know Boomerang is okay, we love seeing pictures of him!

The animal cruelty allegations continue to fly as the Daily News has another update of "The Baby Lion the NY Post Abandoned." The Daily News reports that while the lion cub is doing better (though "Boomerang was heavily medicated and wrapped in blankets yesterday to simulate its mother's warmth."), various experts are angry at the Post (naturally) and Post reporter Al Guart for foolishly trying to purchase a lion cub online for an expose on animal cruelty.

This video still of the surveillance footage the NYPD captured of First Tiger of Harlem, Ming, is awesome. No sign of Al the Caiman Alligator. While it's sad Ming had to leave New York, wide open spaces are probably best for him.

If you have ever complained about how tiny your NYC apartment is, think about the poor, poor 400 pound tiger cooped up in a Harlem apartment building. Police removed the 400 Bengal-Siberian tiger, Ming, from the apartment of Antoine Yates yesterday, calling in a police officer who needed to be rappelled down the building, in order to shoot the tiger with a tranquilizer gun. Also found in the apartment: A caiman alligator named Al. Officer Martin Duffy said the tiger charged at him, breaking the glass of the window: "I have to say I got a little nervous – I'm not going to lie." But he successfully darted Ming, who was later carried out by many people, from places like the NYPD, Bronx Zoo, Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty and Animals and the Center for Animal Care and Control.
