If you’ve got a sweet tooth and a couple hundred bucks to blow, you’ll want to mark your calendar for Friday November 16th, when the Food Network throws New York’s “largest dessert party ever.” Called Sweet, the event will unleash a massive tsunami of temptations from some of NewYork’s top pastry chefs, confectioners, cheese makers, bakers and chocolatiers. To wash it all down there’ll be a wide selection of champagne and wine, including samples from Sopranos star Lorraine Bracco’s Italian wine company, Bracco Wines. (Dr. Melfi herself will be on hand to talk through your feelings about her wines.)

If there's one thing Gothamist realizes about yesterday's "Women for Bloomberg" rally, it's that comedy gold is all about making fun of the Mayor in subtle ways. Sure, Lorraine Bracco did butter up Mayor Bloomberg by saying, "He's smart. He's good looking. He's rich. And he loves his mother. He's perfect, right?" but we think we get where the joke is, right? Bracco also said that he doesn't "have the voice of actor James Earl Jones." That's for sure. Apparently Senator Schumer's daughter Jessica stopped by the rally, causing the Senator's spokesperson to assure the media that Senator Schumer would be supporting whoever wins the Democratic primary. Heh. Anyway, it seems like there was a lot of Borscht Belt style humor at the rally (Mayor Bloomberg marveling over having so much love from women wanting Bloomberg and asking "Where were you when I was 16?") but the most interesting thing is that Mayor Bloomberg joked about the absence of his mother - in D.C. with friend - saying, " "I don't know whether she's helping the administration or protesting against them." How amazing would it be for a 96 year old Charlotte Bloomberg to be protesting the Bush administration?

The best thing about the Gruner+Jahr vs. Rosie O'Donnell trial is that with a comedian (comedienne?) as one of the litigants, there are great soundbites. Rosie editor Susan Toepfer claimed that Rosie said "As a lesbian, I'm uncomfortable being on a magazine cover holding another woman or touching another woman" regarding a proposed cover photograph that featured O'Donnell in between Lorraine Bracco and Edie Falco, which seems to be the latest in the crack G+J legal team's strategy of trying to make sure Rosie seems super gay and therefore incredibly insane. Rosie told reporters outside the courthouse, "I have never in my life said, 'As a lesbian, blah, blah, blah.' 'As a lesbian, pass the salt! As a lesbian, give me a Diet Coke!'" O'Donnell claims her problems with the cover photograph stemmed from the fact that it was unflattering. On this one, Gothamist has to side with Rosie. It's not so great.
