Real estate investor Joseph Chetrit now holds the keys to the legendary Hotel Chelsea, after getting an $85 million loan and closing the deal last week. The hotel already stopped taking reservations, and no guests are left in the building... but long time residents still have no idea what's going to happen to them. In the meantime, the new owner has taken down all of the art, in what appears to be an attempt to rip the heart and soul from the place. What you see above is the current state of the lobby, which used to be adorned with layers of artwork that have accumulated throughout the years (the art has also slowly been disappearing from the building's stunning staircase).

Empire State Building Unveils New Lobby
This morning the Empire State Building took some time to show off its newly renovated Art Deco Lobby and restored historic ceiling mural, with architect Frank Prial (who did the Grand Central restoration) on hand. This is all part of a $550 million historical renovation, the lobby taking about $12.5 million of that. The NY Times reports that the pricey touch up brought back to life "two shiny Art Deco murals that disappeared from view in the 1960s."
Wanted Virginia Man Surrenders in WABC 7 Lobby
A strange event unfolded at WABC 7's studios on Columbus Avenue near Lincoln Center. A man wanted for attempting to kill his girlfriend in Virginia decided to turn himself in to WABC 7. Terry Lavern Leathers called the assignment desk, saying he was "wanted for a crime I did not commit."
