SummerStage 2012 Lineup Features Hamlet Set To Pearl Jam's Ten

The City Parks Foundation has officially announced the 2012 season of SummerStage, but one thing really stood out amongst the 54-page PDF press release we received: over in the Bronx they'll be doing a re-imagined version of Hamlet set to the music of Pearl Jam. Say what? According to the release, the theatrical concert event, called A King of Infinite Space, will take place on July 13th and 14th in Crotona Park. more ›

Governors Ball Returns With Festival On... Randall's Island

Governors Ball Returns With Festival On... Randall's Island

First things first: it's very important to state up front that this year's Governors Ball will NOT be on Governors Island. Which is a shame because there's just something a little more special about attending a show on Governors Island (yes, even with the ferry clusterf*ck), over say... Randall's Island. Which is where the Governors Ball will be held this summer :( But let's focus on the positive. The fest is back for a 2nd year, and the organizers have just announced this summer's lineup, which is actually pretty great—and hey, maybe these guys could end up saving the festival scene in New York—which has been dying for quite some time. more ›

416-Pound Man Granted New Trial Because New Yorkers Are Too Skinny

416-Pound Man Granted New Trial Because New Yorkers Are Too Skinny

A 416-pound robbery suspect has been granted a new trial because of the lack of 400 pound guys in the city. An appeals court judge ruled that the lineup he was picked out of was unfair because all the other guys were just too skinny. "Although the fillers were large men, there was a very noticeable weight difference between defendant and the fillers," said the judge. more ›

New Yorker Festival 2010: Herzog, Carell, Baldwin, Gaiman

Tickets go on sale Friday at noon for this year's New Yorker Festival, which, as usual, has a lot going for it. Highlights of the three-day, early-October series include talks with Werner Herzog, Alec Baldwin, Steve Carell, Lorrie Moore, and Neil Gaiman. An event featuring newly-svelte actor John Goodman has been mysteriously canceled, but there will be a panel, Live from New York, featuring Seth Meyers, the head writer for Saturday Night Live, and other TBA cast members. An opening-night screening of David Fincher's film The Social Network (the Facebook movie) will be followed by a discussion with the film's stars, Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake. And to keep track of it all, there's a New Yorker Fest app in the Apple Store & Android Market today! more ›

Siren Fest Returns, Lineup Announced

Siren Fest Returns, Lineup Announced

With Coney Island's future uncertain (not to mention the future of print), it's nice to see the Siren Festival back for another encore. The Village Voice just announced the lineup for their 9th annual music fest, which will take place on Saturday, July 18th. Sure, it will never trump the 2004 Siren, where Gothamist got to touch Ben Gibbard, but very few things can—so without futher ado, the lineup is (drumroll please): Built to Spill, The Raveonettes, Frightened Rabbit, Grand Duchy, Monotonix, and Micachu & the Shapes. They promise to announce more acts soon, and remind that the event is free, and open to all ages, as always. Be sure to check out the full poster for this year, another colorful one by Paul Antonson. more ›
