It was a violent night in the Longwood section of The Bronx this morning, where a triple shooting left two people injured and killed one. Police say that all three victims were shot while inside vehicles. One victim, who was shot in the arm, actually walked into the 40th precinct to report the shootings.

Police responded to reports of gunfire in an apartment in the Mt. Eden section of the Bronx last night and found three people shot in the head. Two of the victims were dead and one was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where he is in critical condition. The dead victims were 20-year-old Ludmildy Rosado and 34-year-old Daniel Newton. Police were not sure if the two knew each other or not.

Asimi Soumare, a 7-year-old girl, died today from injuries sustained in Wednesday's horrible fire in the Highbridge section of the Bronx. She is the 10th victim of the fire, which killed her three siblings and mother and five cousins Wednesday. Her father, cabdriver Mamadou Soumare who rushed to the scene when his wife called him about the fire, has now lost his whole immediate family. Imam Musa Kaba said of Soumare and Moussa Magassa, who lost five of his children, "Life is a test. New York is crying for them. All Americans are crying for them. I told them to be patient."

A man's fall into the subway tracks is now cause for a lawsuit. Angel Diaz, a nurse's aide who was headed to Lincoln Hospital for a job application, says he slipped on the wet platform at the 143rd Street Station and then "tripped on a bump in the cement used to repair a leak from a janitor's closet." Diaz's lawyer says he "flew" onto the tracks, where a subway car ran over his hand.

A judge at Bronx Supreme Court was saved by a court clerk - who happens to moonlight as an FDNY medic - yesterday morning. Judge Berman Katz's had a heart attack while with some colleagues, and, luckily, clerk John McConnell was around. McConnell told the Daily News Katz "was very pale and slightly blue-looking," and McConnell used CPR, then defibrillators, and then CPR again to revive him. Katz, who retired in May, regained a strong pulse but was taken to Lincoln Hospital.

Last night, two children were shot in two different incidents in the Mott Haven area of the Bronx. First, a 13 year old was shot in the leg yesterday afternoon while he was outside MS 220 on Brook Avenue; police think his shooter was aiming for someone else. Then around 7:30PM, a 10 year old girl was also hit in the leg while she was playing outside, and she was caught in the crossfire of some arguing men. The two children were both brought to Lincoln Hospital, where they are recovering. Is it too much to hope that the city can do more to stop the illegal gun trade, as the Mayor tries to encourage gun control laws?
