A jury found Lina Sinha, a former Upper East Side Montessori principal, guilty of having sex with a 13-year-old student a decade ago. The student, now a 24-year-old police officer, told prosecutors about their relationship which lasted nine years after Sinha became jealous of his girlfriend and falsely accused him of threatening her and raping her.

What the hell is going on? The city's teachers are suddenly all Notes on a Scandal! There are three high-profile cases of improper student-teacher relations across the city.

The sex trial that almost had director Steven Soderbergh as a juror heard testimony from one of the prosecution's star witnesses. The Manhattan DA's office says that former Montessori school principal Lina Sinha had affairs with two very underage male students. One of the victims, now a 24-year-old police officer, testified that Sinha kissed him when he was upset after losing an academic competition in 1995. He was 13 at the time, while Sinha was 29; the officer testified, "I was very sad, and Lina kissed me on the mouth" in her school office.

It's really hard to joke about a sex trial where a female Manhattan Montessori school teacher is accused of the statutory rape and sodomy and two teenage boys, but based on the NY Times' article about juror selection, it seems there are moments of levity.

Remember that New York magazine article from two weeks ago, about older women robbing the cradle and going after underage boy? Well, there have been two new cases that are certainly doozies: On Tuesday, a 40 year old female teacher at a private Montessori school was charged with statutory rape and sodomy after it was revealed she had been having sex with underage male students who were only 12 and 13 when the affairs started. The boy who was 13 when the "affair" started is now 23 and now is a police officer in the NYPD! The DA's office asked that bail for Lina Sinha be set at $100,00, but, according to the AP, Sinha's lawyer got that down to $50,000, after arguing "his client had appeared for every court date, was born and raised in New York and educated in the city's schools, including Columbia University, and would not flee." Wow, city cred goes a long way.
