Scarlett Johansson to Star in A View From the Bridge

Scarlett Johansson will make her Broadway debut in Arthur Miller's classic tragedy A View from the Bridge—not in Neil Simon's musical Promises, Promises (as previously rumored). Her co-star will be kick-ass actor Liev Schreiber, who'll play Eddie Carbone, a Brooklyn longshoreman obsessed with his 17-year-old niece Catherine, played by Scar-Jo. We can't foresee Schreiber having any trouble making that role convincing, but will the smoldering, soft-spoken starlet be able to translate her cinematic heat to the stage? More importantly, what will she be wearing? And if she's playing a 17-year-old, is it wrong to drool during the performance? (If so, we're in big trouble over Ghost World.)

(directed by Paul Greengrass)

If you detected a frisson of fabulous excitement scorching the air this morning, it’s because the 61st annual Tony award nominations were announced! (For those who may not fathom the awesome significance of the Tonys, the awards are the Broadway theater world equivalent of the Oscars and named for Antoinette Perry, an actress, director, producer and who passed away prior to the first award show in 1947.)

COMEDY: Our favorite duo, Gil Faizon (Nick Kroll) and George St. Geegland (John Mulaney), will be bringing their "Oh Hello" show to UCB. Drop by, even if it's just for their famous Tuna-tina recipe. In addition, there will be NEW drink recipes...and special guests.

has been building. Maybe it's merely the oddity of combining Garrison Keillor's radio program, Altman's usual troop of amazing character actors and the teen starlet that has people intrigued but it finally hits general theatrical release. Besides a blonde LIndsay trying to hold her own with the likes of Lily Tomlin and Kevin Kline, it should be fun to see Streep behind the mic, as apparently she and many other cast members sing in the film.

Liev Schreiber, Everything Is Illuminated

With 50% chance of rain and air so thick we actually hope it will, we'd be perfectly happy spending the coming days inside a nice, cool movie theater. Of course, Gothamist doesn't need choking humidity to head to the movies, especially when there is a collection of new releases and old programming around town like we have this week. From RESFEST to CMJ Filmfest, and so much more, this is a great week for NYC film lovers.
