READING: We originally thought this was going down yesterday, but you still have a chance to see it! Not in a million years would we have thought we'd be listing a reading by former Guns n' Roses guitarist, Slash. But it turns out old rockers love to dish on their sordid lives, and this mysterious musician is no different. Tonight he'll read from his book, called Slash, which apparently "redefines sex, drugs, and rock 'n'......

The outcome is an informative documentary called Bling: A Planet Rock which focuses on "the flashy world of commercial hip-hop jewelry played a significant role in the ten-year civil war" in West Africa. 4:30, 6:50, 9:15pm // BAM Rose Cinemas [30 Lafayette Ave, Brooklyn] // $12 ART: Photographs by Lisette Model,......

THEATER: We could try to describe Neal Medlyn's Coming In The Air Tonight, but why bother when there’s this: “The show features a variety of Phil Collins and Genesis music and is about how Neal is starting to slowly fall apart due to how he's all torn up inside from getting his heart broken into tiny pieces. It is also about how Neal steals a lot of stuff from people. Like their belongings and house......

The stacked lineup was unfortunately without top draw Amy Winehouse, who had to pull out of several recent performances, but featured sets......

Murray Hill can make even the most uptight New Yorker at least offer up a chuckle, if not an all-out belly laugh, with his well-honed ladies' man-about-town sthick. With his jocular, wink-wink style, he's never at a loss for words, whether working a raucous, drunken bingo crowd, prepping audiences for bands like Le Tigre, or hosting burlesque pagaents. Known for his anything-might-happen style, Murray can regularly be found emceeing his way across the city's stages,......

This is where Gothamist tells you what tickets to buy...because not every band gives it away for free on a flatbed truck (yes, we've somehow managed to make the free U2 show sound dirty.) So, before the tickets sell out and you are left bargaining on Craigslist, we are here to tell you what to buy... -* First and foremost, they just put up extra tickets to the Guided By Voices shows this weekend. BUY......

In case somebody is reading Gothmamist at the hour on a Friday... The droning, stoned-out Warlocks bring their multi-guitar rawk show to the Mercury Lounge tonight and tomorrow. On the bill tonight are Dead Meadow and Panthers. Tomorrow it's Dead Meadow and Vietnam. Both shows are highly recommended. Tonight, the Bowery Ballroom hosts the buzzed-about Dresden Dolls. Tomorrow tonight, the incredible Gogol Bordello hits Irving Plaza. Few who have seen them don't go away singing......

Why is it not that surprising Lollapalooza, with Morrissey as one of the headliners, would have poor ticket sales, resulting in its cancellation? Sure, Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, The Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, Le Tigre, Polyphonic Spree, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, all great performers...but even indie darlings can't guarantee volume. Gothamist wonders if these artists are appealing to the same customer, versus different groups of customers. [Via Chicagoist] What went wrong with Lollapalooza this year?......
