READING: We originally thought this was going down yesterday, but you still have a chance to see it! Not in a million years would we have thought we'd be listing a reading by former Guns n' Roses guitarist, Slash. But it turns out old rockers love to dish on their sordid lives, and this mysterious musician is no different. Tonight he'll read from his book, called Slash, which apparently "redefines sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll."

MOVIE: In the unlikeliest of scenarios, rapper (and jeweler) Paul Wall, his grills, Reggaetón king Tego Calderón and Wu-Tang's Raekwon traveled to Sierra Leone. The outcome is an informative documentary called Bling: A Planet Rock which focuses on "the flashy world of commercial hip-hop jewelry played a significant role in the ten-year civil war" in West Africa.

THEATER: We could try to describe Neal Medlyn's Coming In The Air Tonight, but why bother when there’s this: “The show features a variety of Phil Collins and Genesis music and is about how Neal is starting to slowly fall apart due to how he's all torn up inside from getting his heart broken into tiny pieces. It is also about how Neal steals a lot of stuff from people. Like their belongings and house wares but also their thoughts and ideas…Over the course of which Neal gets progressively covered in more and more blood. The end. As if that weren't enough, it features special guest appearances by Kenny Mellman (of Kiki & Herb), Bridgett Everett (At Least It's Pink), and Adrienne Truscott (of the Wau Wau Sisters).” Read ye olde timey 2004 Gothamist interview with Medlyn. - John Del Signore

(AKA The It doesn't feel like Friday and we're still hungover from SXSW edition)

MUSIC: Of course we suggest you come hang out with us tonight at our 4th Birthday Party, and 11th Movable Hype show. The show starts at 7:30pm, here are the details and some mp3s:

Our 11th Movable Hype show, and also our 4th Birthday, is coming up this Thursday! You can buy tickets here, and we suggest coming early. There will be gift bags (first come, first served), and a select amount will have special treats from clothier Le Tigre! Those will go fast, kids.

along with sexy sidekick Dirty Martini and accompanied on piano by Lance Cruce. Here, he tells us where to find New York's best cheeseburger, why he loves stage banter, his dream venue, and why freaky New Yorkers should stick around and reclaim downtown.

COMEDY: Our favorite duo, Gil Faizon (Nick Kroll) and George St. Geegland (John Mulaney), will be bringing their "Oh Hello" show to UCB. Drop by, even if it's just for their famous Tuna-tina recipe. In addition, there will be NEW drink recipes...and special guests.

There are some great benefits happening around town tonight, we suggest you hit one, or both, up if you have the time.

After getting yourselves a coffee or some brunch this morning, which we currently need...desperately, you may ponder what to do with the rest of your Saturday. Look no further, Gothamist is here to point you in the right direction. If you aren't into anything on this list, the city has more to offer. Really! For those of you who like awesome music, for free, we suggest heading over to Sound Fix in Brooklyn. They'll be having some amazing instore shows today. First up at 1pm is Bonnie Prince Billy. Then at 2:30 Marbles and Clem Snide take over. The latter two are playing at the Bowery Ballroom tonight, the show is now sold out so this will be your only chance to catch them in New York this time around. Sound Fix is located at 110 Beford Ave, Williamsburg.

This is where Gothamist tells you what tickets to buy...because not every band gives it away for free on a flatbed truck (yes, we've somehow managed to make the free U2 show sound dirty.) So, before the tickets sell out and you are left bargaining on Craigslist, we are here to tell you what to buy...

In case somebody is reading Gothmamist at the hour on a Friday...

What went wrong with Lollapalooza this year? The line-up is great, but was it missing the kind of act that brings in the crowds, like, say, a rapper would. Which brings us to another story: According to an MTV.com story, the Strokes and Beastie Boys felt Jay-Z's appearance upstaged them at the K-ROCK Dysfunctional Family Picnic, and a drunken (is there any other kind?) member of the Strokes went crazy, trashing dressing rooms and saying he wanted to kill a K-ROCK program director. Man. Anyway, Lollapalooza would have been at Randalls Island August 16 and 17; all ticket holders will be refunded.
