Yesterday, Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen criticized First Lady hopeful Ann Romney, saying Romney "actually never worked a day in her life." Romney, noted Pinterest Pinner, then joined Twitter to respond, "I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys. Believe me, it was hard work." You try raising a family of five on a shoestring because your deadbeat husband only brings home $374,000 in speaker's fees.

NYC (And America's) First Gay Senior Center Has Opened
Finally, older gay men and lesbians have a place in the city just for them. The SAGE Center, possibly the nation's first gay senior center, officially opened its doors at 305 Seventh Avenue yesterday. The center gives older gays a place of their own to do everything including eating, socializing, take classes, see nurses, dance and even do yoga, without feeling stigmatized.
Who Cares If Whitney Houston Was A Lesbian?
With Whitney Houston buried, it's time for the media to dig up her skeletons! And if there is one persistent rumor the singer spent years fighting, it was that she was a lesbian—"I am a mother, not a lesbian. I am not gay," she said in a 2000 interview. Well, here it comes again. Peter Tatchell has taken to the Daily Mail to bring back the argument that Whitney's fall from grace wasn't caused by her marriage to Bobby Brown—it came with the self-repression she suffered by dropping her female lover for Brown.
Former Playboy Playmate Sues NYPD Over Manhandling
A former Playboy Playmate is suing the NYPD over a 2006 incident in which she alleges police used excessive force on her. Stephanie Adams, who was the first openly lesbian Playboy bunny in 1992, says cops drew their guns on her and "mashed" her face into the pavement after she got into an argument with a cab driver who falsely told the cops she had threatened to shoot him. “We’re very pleased she has her case before the jury,” said her lawyer, Sanford Rubenstein. “It’s been a long time coming.”
Store's Rejection Of Lesbian Bride Inspires Hundreds Of Negative Yelp Reviews
Yesterday, we heard about a lesbian bride-to-be who was scolded, and then turned away, from a bridal shop in New Jersey because of her sexuality. The story inspired outrage and vitriol toward the bridal shop across the internet, but nowhere more pervasive than on the Here Comes The Bride Yelp page, where around 400 people have posted negative reviews in the last day, with such gems as: "Therefore, myself, an American that believes in the right of everyone to live a life free of inequalities, I will never ever without a gun to my head step foot through your threshold...unless I'm a zombie and if that happens, I'm coming for your brains first."
Lesbian Bride Scolded, Rejected By NJ Bridal Shop
Most people we've come across seem to have come to terms with, if not fully support and embrace, the passing of gay marriage in NYC, besides some Florida teachers, evangelical preachers, and crazy-eyed presidential candidates. Oh, and certain NJ bridal shop owners: a lesbian bride-to-be was scolded, and then turned away, by the manager of Here Comes the Bride in Somers Point, N.J.—"She said she wouldn't work with me because I'm gay. She also said that I came from a nice Jewish family, and that it was a shame I was gay. She said, 'There's right, and there's wrong. And this is wrong.' "
Lawyer: Catholic School Girl Fabricating Teacher's Sexual Abuse
Yesterday, a female science teacher on Staten Island was arrested and accused of having inappropriate sexual conduct with a 16-year-old female student. Police said that Danielle Johnsen had at least three hot-and-heavy encounters with a sophomore. But Johnsen's lawyer told SI Advance yesterday that all is not what it seems, and he had started his own investigation: "There is absolutely no truth to the allegations. It is very clear to me that [the complainant] has made up this entire story. What’s not so clear is why. We have some ideas, and my investigators and I will find out what’s going on soon enough. Don’t worry about that."
Queens LBGT Pride Parade Tomorrow
Recently, President Obama officially declared June the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month, and events are going on across the five boroughs all month. Today, a few hundred members of Staten Island's LGBT community came out for their march, culminating with a festival in Tompkinsville Park at 4 p.m. later this afternoon. And tomorrow, there is the 19th Annual Queens Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Parade and Festival taking place in Jackson Heights.
Long Island Catholic School Bans Gay Couples From Prom
While a gay student was voted Prom King in Pennsylvania last weekend, some NYC-area schools are still uncomfortable with allowing same-sex couples to attend prom together. St. Anthony's Catholic High School in Long Island has barred a lesbian student from bringing her ex-girlfriend to prom as her date. "We thought it would send a mixed message to OK her request," Brother Gary Cregan, principal of the school, told MSNBC.
West Point Denies Lesbian Cadet Readmission, For Now
Just because the military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy, which restricted openly gay, bisexual and lesbian citizens from serving in the military, has been repealed doesn't mean that openly gay people will be getting into West Point academy right up until the day the law goes into full effect. West Point has rejected a lesbian cadet who resigned from West Point last year, because she refused to hide her sexual orientation anymore, from readmission into the academy.
Lesbian Tryst Teachers Suing The City For Sexy Slander
The two teachers from James Madison High School who were accused of having a steamy lesbian tryst in the janitor's closet last year are sick and tired of your snickering, sexy jokes, and they are gonna make the city pay for it. Former teachers Alini Brito and Cindy Mauro are suing the city for $2 million, for "wrongful termination, libel and slander."
Teachers' Alleged Lesbian Tryst Leads To Lawsuit
Last we heard, the James Madison High School "lesbian tryst" teachers were claiming that they weren't engaging in sexual conduct on school ground, rather, one of them was giving the other an insulin shot (a sexy, shirtless insulin shot). Alini Brito, who was fired last week, says co-worker Cindy Mauro was simply checking her blood sugar, but state arbitrator Mary Crangle ruled that "there is no possible medical, nonsexual assistance that a partially naked person could possibly be rendering to another naked person in the position described." Brito's next move: lawsuit!
Video: Bloomberg Says "It Gets Better"
It's been more than four months since Dan Savage started his "It Gets Better" video project, in response to the bullying and suicide of several gay teens, including Rutgers student Tyler Clementi. And now, Mayor Bloomberg has made his own IGB video (which you can see below). Many have criticized Bloomberg for slashing funds for homeless LGBT youths, but the City Council announced today that they have figured out a way to restore $35 million to the street outreach program.
Obama Signs Don't Ask Don't Tell Repeal Into Law
This morning, President Obama signed into law the repeal of the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, which restricted openly gay men and women from serving in the military. It was a particularly happy day for the President, who had made repealing the 17-year-old DADT policy one of his issues during his presidential campaign. "No longer will tens of thousands of Americans in uniform be asked to live a lie, or look over their shoulder in order to serve the country that they love," Obama said during a press conference after the historic signing.
Senate Votes To Repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell
After years of controversy, debate and frustration, the Senate voted 65 to 31 today to repeal the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, which restricted openly gay, bisexual and lesbian citizens from serving in the military. With the bill already having passed the House 250 to 175, it will now go to President Obama, who advocated for a full repeal of DADT during his presidential campaign, and is expected to sign it into law. Obama said: "I am also absolutely convinced that making this change will only underscore the professionalism of our troops as the best led and best trained fighting force the world has ever known...It is time to allow gay and lesbian Americans to serve their country openly."
Administrators Caught In Lesbian Affair Face Termination
The DOE have announced that they are planning on firing the Principal and Assistant Principal who were embroiled in a two-year long affair which came to an end in a hail of firing requests and death threats. "We are currently seeking to terminate both Principal Simmons and Assistant Principal Jones," for conduct believed to include sex during school hours, said DOE spokeswoman Barbara Morgan. But what do Principal Crystal Simmons' current and former husbands think?
Lesbian Tryst Teachers' Rendezvous Exposed!
Shocking. The two female teachers caught going at it in a darkened classroom last year, were drunk. As so many sort-of-lesbians before them, a little alcohol was needed before the two got down to business. According to the Daily News, the James Madison High School teachers—Alini Brito and Cindy Mauro— were at a local bar before their rendezvous which was interrupted by two inopportunistic handymen.
Lesbian Ex-Cop Sues NYPD for $40 Million
After 18 years on the force, a lesbian NYPD officer retired last August because she couldn't stand the harassment she was allegedly subjected to at the 49th Precinct stationhouse. Now Arlene Ramery, 50, is suing the city for $40 million, accusing a fellow detective, Ralph Argiento, of sexual harassment. According to court papers obtained by the Daily News, Ramery claims the station house was—shocker—"permeated with 'sexism' and other 'frat boy' type behavior."
Is Softball Gay?
It's been two days since the Wall Street Journal ran this front-page photo of Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan playing softball, and people are still asking: Was the photo intended as innuendo suggesting Kagan is a lesbian? Some lesbian activists think so, and they've pegged the paper as homophobic. And the Journal isn't exactly bending over backwards to apologize. But a deeper question lingers: does softball = lesbian?
Friend of Supreme Court Nom Says Kagan's Not Gay
A close friend of Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan has come forward to dispel rumors that Obama's pick to replace John Paul Stevens is a lesbian. In an interview with Politico, Sarah Walzer, Kagan’s roommate in law school and a close friend since then, says:
Republicans May Vote Against Kagan After Voting For Her
Today President Obama announced his nomination to replace John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court: Current Solicitor General Elena Kagan. In his speech, Obama said the 50-year-old Upper West Side native is "widely regarded as one of the nation's foremost legal minds. She's an acclaimed legal scholar with a rich understanding of constitutional law. She is a former White House aide, with a life-long commitment to public service and a firm grasp of the nexus and boundaries between our three branches of government." (Watch below.) But Republican Senators made it immediately clear that they would not rubber stamp Obama's nominee.
Lesbian Attackers Win Appeal!
Two of the women involved the infamous lesbian catcall beatdown of Aught Six may get out of jail soon, the Times reports. A four-judge appeals court yesterday overturned the convictions of Terrain Dandridge and Renita Hill, who are currently doing time on assault charges after they attacked a man who they say tried to woo them outside the Greenwich Village IFC Center with come-ons like “I’ll fu-k you straight.”
NYC Wants Gay Tourist Dollars
Last month, New York City kicked off a big global advertising campaign to attract more tourists to the Big Apple. The ads appear in a number of venues, and the Post notes that media space has been bought in Out magazine and on the LOGO network, as well as LGBT websites. A Bloomberg administration official explains that gay and lesbians have more disposable income, as they are usually dual-income without kids, "What we're saying...
