Maybe we were a little underwhelmed by the choice of Leonardo DiCaprio as the new Jay Gatsby, but these photos from Warner Bros. that were just released have sold us on the decision. (Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson looks amazing, too.) Though it's hard to picture what any of this 1920s glamor will look like in 3-D.
Here's Your First Real Look At Leonardo DiCaprio As Jay Gatsby
New Photos Show Great Gatsby Cast Going 1920s NY... In Australia
The Great Gatsby is currently filming in... Australia, and photos have surfaced of the cast getting their 1920s New York on down under. The latest film adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic is being directed by Baz Luhrmann (who is filming it in 3-D), and stars Leonardo Di Caprio (Jay Gatsby), Tobey Maguire (Nick Carraway), Isla Fisher (Myrtle Wilson), and Carey Mulligan (Daisy Buchanan). Other cast members include Joel Edgerton (Tom Buchanan), Jason Clarke (George Wilson), and Elizabeth Debicki (Jordan Baker).
OMG Leonardo DiCaprio Was On Delta Flight 30
Thank goodness everything turned out ok during yesterday's emergency landing of Delta Flight 30, because one of the 193 passengers happened to be none other than Leonardo DiCaprio! DiCaprio, who was on his way to the Tiger Summit in St. Petersburg, "wishes to commend the actions of the pilot and flight crew in bringing the plane to a safe landing," according to his rep. He also reportedly signed autographs for all the crew members!

Details about the film star's specific residence weren't disclosed, but the Riverhouse has 264 units, including three bedroom duplexes that are still available.
New York's Film Industry Heads North
With the writers' strike looking like it'll wrap up this week, Crain's points us towards another problem for New York's entertainment industry.
Giants' Celebrity Fans Get Ready for the Super Bowl
We know that Giants co-owner and movie producer Steve Tisch has been trying to ramp up the star power for the Giants sidelines. After Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz were seen at a game last fall, Tisch told the NY Times, he brings "the spices, the taste, the flavor" to the Giants (if the Giants experience were a soup; the other co-owners, the Maras, would bring the meat and potatoes).
Blogging Freeganism
Freegans have been around for a while now, most recently The Times caught them dumpster diving in the NYU area just as school let out. A freegan goldmine! Now a blogger for Newsweek is getting knee deep in rubbish for a month in order to fully understand these "waste reclaimers".
Pencil This In
READING: Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Presidential candidate John Edwards, will have the spotlight on her for the night as she reads from her memoir, Saving Graces. The tale of her teenage son's death and her current battle with cancer may have you grabbing for a box of tissues (and voting for her hubby?).
The Cinecultist's Weekly DVD Pick: Slapstick City Edition
News Radio: Season Five: It really is wonderful that this trend of releasing every last television series EVER to DVD has caught on. Some of the more obscure show available for purchase may seem a bit ridiculous but for serious TV junkies, the spotty consistency of syndication isn't enough for revisiting your favorite programs. News Radio, which ran from '95 to '99, is one of those shows that's well worth a repeat viewing, and their releasing its fifth and final season this week on DVD.
Oscar, Oscar: Liveblogging the Academy Awards 2007
7:06PM First thoughts: Gael Garcia Bernal is so cute. Ryan Seacrest is an idiot, as are Joan and Melissa Rivers. But we want to know what Jennifer Lopez is wearing! (It turns out to be Marchesa.)
The Cinecultist's Weekly Movie Picks: Romantic Vacay edition
Two quite controversial and buzzed about movies hit New York theaters this weekend. So far the critical opinion of raving lunatic Mel Gibson's new foreign language feature, . Now we finally get to see the film they thought was going to be such a public relations nightmare. Leo plays a South African diamond smuggler who teams up with a Sierra Leone farmer (the always excellent Djimon Hounsou) to outwit a syndicate of businessmen. From the trailers it looks pretty heartpounding, and not just because the lovely Jennifer Connelly is also in it.
2 Months to a Lazer Tag Comeback
As you may or may not know, we love the show How I Met Your Mother (one character even has a blog - not an entirely new idea, but we like it). Last week two of the characters on the show went to a lazer tag park and declared that the game was totally making a comeback within 2 months. So we wanted to get prepared, because we actually think lazer tag could be fun!
Leonardo DiCaprio as Malcolm Gladwell?
, we never quite thought of Malcolm Gladwell's bestselling books as "movie material." Though interesting and filled with all kinds of fun facts about snap judgments, speed-dating, and the origins of the Hush Puppy madness, they lacked traditional plots or story outlines that could easily be adapted for the screen; they seemed more Discovery Channel material. But thanks to a skinny modelizer with big adaptation dreams -- Leonardo DiCaprio -- we can probably expect Blink, the “intellectual adventure story,” to soon hit theatres. According to Variety, Dicaprio's production company is currently adapting the bestseller, with DiCaprio (obviously) set to star and Stephen Gaghan onboard to write and direct. Supposedly, Gaghan's plans to include a writer character based on Gladwell and various characters out of the book, "woven together into a story." We can only hope DiCaprio intends to play the lead in a curly, Gladwell-afro inspired wig.

P. Diddy Gets The Vote Out
Sean "P. Diddy" Combs announced his voter-registration/voter interest drive initiative, Citizen Change, earlier this week. The way to reach the 42 million voters between 18 and 30? The urgent, fatalistic and ultimately pithy: "Vote or Die!" (It also sounds like a video game.) The program is non-partisan, non-profit, and chock full of celebrity endorsers, with 50 Cent, Leonardo DiCaprio, Snoop Dogg, and Jay-Z and Ashton Kutcher on board. Vote or Die! shirts went on sale earlier this week, and Diddy Combs will be making appearance at both conventions - the Democratic National Convention on July 29 and the Republican National Convention on September 2.
