Six Feet's Lauren Ambrose Is The New Funny Girl

For the first time since 1967, Funny Girl will be back on Broadway. And the actress playing the role of Fanny Brice (which made Barbara Streisand into a star) will be played by...Lauren Ambrose, an actress who you might remember from such television shows as Six Feet Under, The Return of Jezebel James and Torchwood: Miracle Day, currently airing on Starz. The new Funny Girl, directed by Bartlett Sher (Lincoln Center's revival of South Pacific) will run in LA from January 15 through February 26, before hopefully coming to rain on the parade of other big Broadway revivals like Evita, with Ricky Martin, in the spring. Will Parting Be Such Sweet Sorrow For This Year's Romeo And Juliet?

This season Shakespeare in the Park started off with Romeo and Juliet, a play that surprisingly hasn't seen the outdoor Delacorte Theatre since 1968, when Martin Sheen played Romeo to Susan McArthur's Juliet. On July 8th the run will end, and A Midsummer Night's Dream will finish up the season. With notoriously long ticket lines to gain the free pass to a show, many miss out on these performances due to lack of time alone. The Character Actors of Law & Order

Two weeks ago, the Times examined the cottage industry that is Law & Order's character casting. Essentially, Dick Wolf's crime franchise is supporting New York's struggling actors, as well as acting as a stepping stone to bigger and better things in the biz. Gothamist loves how Dick Wolf, when reading Playbill at the theater, thinks an actor is either bad or new in town if he/she doesn't have a Law & Order credit, because Gothamist has played "How many actors in this play have been on Law & Order?" whenever we go to the theater. It's especially great to see an actor play a witness one time, and then be upgraded to the actual killer. Or bumped up to a recurring role as a defense lawyer. more ›
