A fight outside a Yonkers bar that cost a man his vision in one eye, may cost a number of NYPD members professionally. One of the participants in the brawl on the border of the Westchester city and the Bronx, Thomas Wimmer, has already resigned from the force. Three other officers are suspended without pay after their arraignment Friday on misdemeanor charges related to a beating on McLean Ave. that cracked a man's skull.

Ooh, a fun update about the remake of The Taking of Pelham One-Two-Three. AMNY's Subway Tracker reports that location scouting is well under way, "Crews were at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station today...crews will be doing a camera test near Jerome and Tremont in the Bronx tomorrow some time (near the 4 line)." Transit officials even confirmed that crews were scouting today!

A bus headed from Chicago to NYC's Chinatown crashed early Sunday morning in Pennsylvania. Thirty-six people were on board as the bus was going eastbound on I-80 near Clearfield, Pennsylvania; the AP reports the bus "ran off the right side of the two-lane highway before veering left across the roadway, running up an embankment and flipping onto its side in a grassy area."

The city is giving IBM an $80 million contract to create a supercomputer to track public school students. Accrding to the Daily News, computer's program will be called "ARIS" - "Achievement Reporting and Innovation System" - and will be able to track a student's biographical details, education needs, education history, test scores, etc., and provide up-to-the-minute information. From the News:

The [interim tests student take will] measure whether kids have mastered specific skills, such as multiplying fractions or distinguishing fact from opinion, at different times of the year.

It's another round in the city vs. nightlife: Police shut down West Chelsea nightclubs Crobar and Sol last night. The Post says that police "cited nine instances of violence," drug arrests, and serving alcohol to minors. Yeah, that happens when people are shot in the leg.

Last September, the city announced that wireless internet would be coming to ten parks around the city, perhaps by summer. Fast forward nine months, only Battery Park's wifi has been completed, but the city set a deadline for all other parks to be wireless ready by July. Nevermind that WiFi Salon is unsure whether they can make it - owner Marshall W. Brown said, "That's the timetable set forth by Parks. Let's see if that's attainable... It's obviously going to be tight, but I'm confident we'll be able to pull it off." City Councilwoman Gale Brewer thinks the process is taking too long, saying, "Free wireless Internet in our city parks is a no-brainer. We should be wiring as much of New York City as possible." Yeah, there's only so much one can do on a Treo! But it's true - NYC has lagged behind other cities and even its own parks (think Bryant Park) in offering free WiFi, but maybe it's because there are so many Starbucks around, not to mention WiFi you can steal.

The latest news in the fatal shooting during a rap video shoot in Brooklyn is that Busta Rhymes may have witnessed his bodyguard's death. Police Commissioner Kelly announced as much yesterday, and other police sources are saying that Rhymes (born Trevor Smith) may have been playing "peacemaker" between some other rappers. Rhymes had been shooting a video for his song, "Touch It {Remix)," and there were a number of music stars on hand to do cameos - Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent and DMX; he originally told police that he was on set during the shooting, but the widow of Israel Ramirez says that Rhymes called her and said he saw it all. Most of the attention is being put on Tony Yayo (part of 50 Cent's crew) and Swizz Beatz (who has produced for Jay-Z and DMX) respectively, who may have had an argument. The Post has a who's who of some of the characters and a timeline of events while the Daily News's Errol Louis says Rhymes and other hip-hop artists should create a fund for Ramirez's chlidren, citing the "criminal irresponsibility of so many of the people who make money creating and marketing hip-hop music."
