Because the brouhaha over Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s arrest will never end, it's time for former Secretary of State Colin Powell to weigh in. While on Larry King Live last night, Powell, who said Gates is a longtime friend, said, "When you're faced with an officer trying to do his job and get to the bottom of something, this is not the time to get in an argument with him...I was taught that as a child. You don't argue with a police officer." He did suggest Gates was tired from his flight from China through NY and also wondered about the Cambridge police, "Once they felt they had to bring Dr. Gates out of the house and to handcuff him, I would have thought at that point some adult supervision would have stepped in and said, OK, look, it is his house. Come on. Let's not -- let's not take this any further. Take the handcuffs off. Goodnight, Dr. Gates." [Here's a transcript and video is after the jump.] Powell also discussed being racially profiled a few years ago—"You just suck it up"—and endorsed Mayor Bloomberg—"I think Mike Bloomberg should be given a third term. And yes, I would say, reelect Mike Bloomberg."

The search is already on to replace Rosie O'Donnell on The View. Rumors are that Rosanne Barr may be first choice to fill the seat. Though Barr was on "Larry King Live" recently and said that she was "not looking for the job," on KVVU-TV in Las Vegas Monday, she seemed to have a change of heart. She told the station, "I'd love it. Yeah, definitely. I think I would do a real good job," adding that she would "stir up some real good controversy." And undoubtedly, some crotch-grabbing.

After some rumors that the Reverend Al Sharpton hated Senator and presidential hopeful Barack Obama, Sharpton says they had a nice phone call yesterday. Sharpton, who just last week told Fox News he believed that Obama's campaign floated the story that he was jealous of the Senator, now says, "We had a good conversation. He said he's got a lot of respect for me and what I've done. We agreed to keep in touch." However, Sharpton won't be endorsing any Democratic candidates until next month, so we'll see how much respect remains after that. Taking a break from Anna Nicole Smith coverage, Larry King interviewed former mayor Rudy Giuliani who finally admitted that he's running for president. In fact, King asked Giuliani three times if he's running (we don't know if that's because King's so old, he's hard of hearing and forgets). During the interview, Giuliani actually criticized the Bush administration, and gave what his strategy would have been to go into Iraq. From the NY Times:

His comments more closely aligned him with his chief rival in Republican primary polls, Senator John McCain of Arizona, who has supported the war, as Mr. Giuliani does, but has criticized its conduct.

Tonight, Nicole Paultre, the fiancee of Sean Bell who was killed by police fire two weeks ago, will appear on Larry King Live with the Reverend Al Sharpton. Paultre has only spoken publicly once before, during the Egypt & Ashy radio show. CNN is accepting questions from people that are emailed to the show.

So, Howard Stern is on the air - if you happen to get Siruis satellite. Is anyone listening right now? We saw him on Larry King Live, where he explained why his daughter quit the off-Broadway show she was going to be nude in (Stern's claim - the producer betrayed his daughter by saying he wasn't going to publicize Howard Stern's daughter would be naked on stage) and who his best and worst interviews were (best: Arnold, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Anka; worst: Gilda Radner). Well, maybe getting Howard Stern on satellite TV will be funny.

Gothamist could not have been the first to think of "The X-Presidents" cartoons on Saturday Night Live when we saw the press conference where President Bush announced that his daddy and President Clinton would help raise funds for tsunami relief. Of course, a more power tableau was during the Clinton Presidential Library opening, because President Carter was also present, but in this instance, President Bush is calling upon ex-Presidents to fight for a good cause. We have to tip our hat to W's team, because there is something motivating to see his predecessors back in a sort of action.

On the Cheney tip, Gothamist also whole-heartedly agrees with Jon Stewart's assessment on Larry King Live that Dick Cheney "honestly is the personification of a grumble. Like when he walks around -- Wilford Brimley is not that upset at the world." And Pataki is asking President Bush to use about $2 billion of unused September 11 funds (there's $2 billion in unused funds?) to build a city rail from downtown to JFK.

Gawker points out that Katie freaked out about plastic surgery allegations on Larry King Live last night. Well, for our money, Katie definitely has that soft focus glow thing going on in the interview, but we can't tell if it's Vaseline on the lens or just an effect of her fuzzy cream sweater.
