-S.I. Yanks 2 Tri-City 0: In what will hopefully be a sign of things to come, we have a baseball championship to celebrate. The Baby Bombers are champions of the New York-Penn League for the second year in a row! It is the first time the league has had a repeat champion in 25 years.
Last Night's Action: Champs!
Last Night's Action: Return to Health?
-Yankees 12, Devil Rays 4: For eight innings, the margin of victory would have been more than the Yanks' magic number, which dropped to nine with the win. Hideki Matsui returned, went 4-for-4 with a walk and Mike Mussina pitched effectively. Both develepments should make Yankees fans smile. Some might have tuned out though, since Bobby Abreu knocked in six runs during a nine-run Yankees first inning.
Last Night's Action: Yanks Survive/Mets Thrive
-Yankees 9 Ryan Howard 7: New York broke a three-game losing streak, but almost lost to Philadelphia thanks to the electric performance of Ryan Howard. Howard had two home runs and a triple, knocking in all seven of the Phillies’ runs. Howard ended the game 3 for 4 and only Mariano Rivera was able to get him out.
Yanks Win it All!
George Steinbrenner must be happy because the Yankees are champions again. Ok, it’s the Staten Island Yankees, but for a guy who cares how his team finishes at every level of his organization, he must have enjoyed this game.
A Big Night for Brooklyn
A baseball All-Star game was played in Brooklyn Tuesday night for the first time since 1949 and while it wasn’t major leaguers playing; the Class A players of the Mets and Yankees did quite well on their own. Over 9,000 fans, the second most ever to attend a game at Keyspan Park, saw the National Legue defeat the American League 5-4.
