The man who burned a Koran this past weekend at the protest of the proposed Islamic community center and mosque has been fired from his job. Derek Fenton was terminated from his NJTransit job on Monday after pictures of him "Mapplethorping the Quran" were published in newspapers all over the country. "Mr. Fenton's public actions violated New Jersey Transit's code of ethics," a NJTransit statement said. more ›

At least 15 people are dead in Kashmir, India today as rioters attacked a Christian school and government buildings. And amidst chants of "Down with America" and "Down with Israel," chants of "Down with Koran desecrators" can also reportedly be heard. Kashmiri officials say the state-run Iranian station has been airing videos of American Koran burnings, especially the footage of a man who ripped and burned pages from the holy book during a protest near Ground Zero. Taj Mohi ud Din, a senior spokesman in the Jammu and Kashmir government, told the NY Times, "Today was the spontaneous religious reaction over the issue of burning of the Koran, which was on television." more ›

The serial flusher responsible for two Koran toilet dunkings at Pace University has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to 300 hours of community service. Stanislav Shmulevich, a Russian immigrant, was a business major at the time of the incidents, in which a copy of the Koran was twice discovered in the toilet – the first time "covered in feces" – in October and November 2006. more ›
