Found when he was tied up in Kissena Park, Duke the dog made such an impression at Brooklyn Animal Care & Control that shelter operations manager pegged him as being perfect for the K-9 Unit. Elderly Woman Attacked in Queens Park

A 73 year old woman was attached by a 22 year old man while she was practicing tai chi at Kissena Park in Queens. Robert McKeon punched and then dragged the woman to some bushes yesterday morning and tried to rape her. Other parkgoers had called the police, who arrested McKeon after a chase, finding his boxers and sneakers along the way; McKeon was charged with "assault, unlawful imprisonment, rape, resisting arrest, harassment and marijuana possession." Parkgoers were stunned, with one saying, "I'm shocked that it was attempted rape. We never had any perverts in the parks," and City Councilman John Liu called the attack "mind-boggling." The NY Post reports McKeon is the son of a firefighter, and the Daily News says he has no criminal record. more ›

The Warmth Continues

At 11 a.m. the temperature had reached the forecasted high of 70 degrees. Time to update the forecast. The Weather Service is now predicting an afternoon high temperature of 75 to 80 degrees, with the higher temperatures a bit to our west in New Jersey. The newly re-designed AccuWeather web site says we'll get up to 73. Tomorrow will be a bit cooler and Wednesday should be summerlike.
