- Nets 115, Knicks 89: Want a sign that Coach Mike D'Antoni is upset with the Knicks? How about some playing time for Demetris Nichols and Cheikh Samb, two players on 10-day contracts? In the second and third quarters, the Nets lit up the scoreboard for 70 points -- they made 16 of 22 shots in the third -- and they did all this without All-Star Devin Harris. Vince Carter had 29. Keyon Dooling, starting in place of Harris, had 17 points. After a disastrous four-game swing through the west, the Nets got the final game of this road trip in the win column. Despite wearing green St. Patrick's Day uniforms a day late, the Knicks had no luck, making two of 15 three pointers. Al Harrington had 21 points.
- Hurricanes 4, Devils 2: Even Martin Brodeur needs a day off every once in a while. He had started 10 consecutive games since returning from his biceps injury -- and set the NHL wins record in the process. Kevin Weekes is no Martin Brodeur. Who could blame the Devils for being emotionally drained after celebrating their goaltender Tuesday in New Jersey and then traveling to Raleigh, N.C., for a game the next night? Zach Parise and Brian Gionta had the goals in the loss.

Devils Lose Brodeur For 3-4 Months
The Devils got terrible news today when they learned that Martin Brodeur will require elbow surgery Thursday to repair the distal bicep in his left elbow. Brodeur is expected to miss 3-4 months after the operation, which should allow him to return to the Devils in March. The loss of Brodeur elevates Kevin Weekes into the starting goaltender’s spot, a role he hasn’t had since the 2003-04 season. Scott Clemmensen, with 15 career games in the NHL, is now Weekes' backup. Brodeur, who was injured Saturday, is a four-time winner, including last year, of the Vezina Trophy as the league's best goalie.
Last Night's Action: Watching the Same Team?
Mavericks 99, Knicks 89: Are James Dolan and Isiah Thomas watching the same team the fans are? More boos were heard in Madison Square Garden during the latest Knicks debacle. But James Dolan and Isiah Thomas don't seem to hear them -- or feel the "Fire Isiah" chants are justified. What more evidence do they need? A loss to the Mavericks, the team that finished with the best record in the NBA last season, wouldn't...

Quick Hits: Rangers and Jeter Win Again; Wright Finally Comes Through
- Rangers 3 San Jose 1: New York completed a successful west coast swing with their second win in as many nights. Kevin Weekes looked stellar between the pipes, stopping 29 of 30 shots and Matt Cullen, Martin Straka and Brendan Shanahan scored. With Weekes playing well in consecutive games, the question is, who will start in goal on Sunday?
Another Bad Loss
The Rangers are slumping at just the wrong time. Facing one of the worst teams in the league, New York gave up 35 shots while only managing 24 of their own and lost 5-3 to Pittsburgh. The loss coupled with a Devils win over Philadelphia leaves the Rangers with a 3 point lead in the division over both teams.
Stuck On 52
One of these days Jagr will get his 53rd goal. The last time the Rangers faced the Islanders; it had appeared that Jagr had scored, only to see the goal credited to Martin Straka. Last night the exact same thing happened in the Rangers’ 3-1 victory over the Islanders. To his credit, Jagr didn’t seem at all interested in the record stating after the game, “The record you might remember two weeks after that. But if you win the Cup, you can remember forever. It means a lot more to me."
Get Ready For Playoff Hockey
It has been nine long years since the Rangers last made the playoffs, but the drought is finally over thanks to a 3-2 victory over Philadelphia Wednesday night. The win gave New York 96 points a number which 9th place Atlanta will not be able to reach.
Rangers Fall 3-2
The Rangers escaped from Florida last night with a point and they should be happy they even got that. They wouldn’t have without the outstanding goaltending of Kevin Weekes who faced 45 shots and made several big saves before being unable to stop Olli Jokinen in the shootout.
Seven Straight
Kevin Weekes picked the perfect time to have his best game as a Ranger. New York stumbled out of the gate taking three penalties and committing multiple turnovers, but Weekes would not allow Philadelphia to score, despite facing 15 shots in the period. With Weekes allowing them to stay in the game, the Rangers hit their stride. Jaromir Jagr scored near the end of the first and the Rangers never looked back, destroying the Flyers 6-1.
Unstoppable
Don’t expect the Rangers to be happy that the Olympic break has arrived. Why would a team that has won six straight want to stop playing now? Saturday night the Rangers beat Toronto 4-2 capping off a perfect month of February.
Nothing but Net
Kevin Weekes had not started in goal since the middle of January and figured to be rusty last night, but the Rangers picked up their defense and didn’t allow an Islander shot in the first eleven minutes of their 5-2 victory. With the upcoming Olympic Break, the Rangers will need to rely on Weekes more to get through the compressed schedule in March and April.
Beaten Up
The Rangers found a new way to lose in overtime last night. Simon Gagne took the opening faceoff and skated through two Rangers before depositing the puck past Kevin Weekes. The play took just seven seconds and gave Philadelphia a 4-3 win.
