They grow up so fast! We remember when Steiner Studios was just a baby and now it will soon become the biggest of the city's four studios. Thanks to a recent $90 million financing package Steiner will soon bump up its space from 310,000-square-feet to 590,000. Perfectly timed as film and TV (and web!) productions start to come back to town in earnest thanks to $420 million in State sales-tax credits through 2014.

Will Sesame Street soon be getting a real life street? Well, the studio that houses it may be—Kaufman Astoria Studios wants to turn a city block into an outdoor movie set, and this week Queens Community Board 1 approved their proposal, reports the Daily News. Things On Mayor Bloomberg's To Do List
- Name a new commissioner for the Department of Transportation (it's Janette Sadik-Khan - check out Streetsblog's suggestions for her)
- Cancel an appearance at a big GOP fund-raiser, which the Post's Fred Dicker thinks fuels further "speculation that he'll run for president"
- Continue to be mad at a Kansas TV station for not airing one of his anti-illegal gun ads
Extra, Extra
- Uhm, in case you missed it, the Murder Inc. guys were found not guilty.
NY: Animal Vermin Town
Garbage is overflowing in the city where local politicos and merchants alike are upset with reduced pickups, due to budget cuts. The Department of Sanitation tells Newsday that each of the city's 25,000+ sidewalk garbage cans are emptied at least once a day, and high traffic cans are emptied up to three times a day, and this is all they can do, given resources. Additionally, the cans overflow due residents dumping their household trash in the near sidewalk garbage can. Queens merchants have Adopt-a-Basket programs, where they will replace trash bags before the sanitation department comes. Clever! And good for the community.
