Recently, IFC News was at the Walter Reade Theater for a New York Film Festival Press Conference for the Brian De Palma film Redacted, where the director was found defending his edit. At the end of the film disturbing images are shown in a montage sequence, photographs that Brian De Palma says "all exist on the internet." That may be so, but Magnolia Pictures owner Mark Cuban doesn't want them on the big screen.

Oscar, Oscar: Liveblogging the Academy Awards 2007
7:06PM First thoughts: Gael Garcia Bernal is so cute. Ryan Seacrest is an idiot, as are Joan and Melissa Rivers. But we want to know what Jennifer Lopez is wearing! (It turns out to be Marchesa.)

MOVIE: In their ongoing series about The Next Generation of Film, the Film Society at Lincoln Center has been bringing award winning filmmakers to the Upper West Side to discuss the behind the scenes of their work. This newest installment features Ben Affleck, the Oscar winner who seems to be on the road back from being a celeb couple punch line with his work in the recent film, , it's rude. - Karen Wilson
When Advertising Meets Grafitti...
are playing on that tendency of New Yorkers with black markers to tag outdoor posters -- by doing the work for the would-be graffiti artists. What makes both of these posters seem clever is how nicely they fit in with the product, as well as the New York streets.

Crazy Project Alert: The Movie Binge
To watch all the crap that comes out in the movie theaters is just plain crazy - especially during the summer movie season when it seems like every other movie is craptastic. But that's just what a few people have set their sights on with a website called The Movie Binge. The site has six people on its roster right now, including Gothamist's own Karen Wilson, with the possibly of some guest "bingers" as well. Their goal is to watch every movie from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

Looking Into the Crystal Ball for the Oscars
As Jon Stewart takes to the stage this Sunday at 8 pm to host the 78th Annual Academy Awards, the movie-lovin' Gothamist will be watching with eager anticipation from our couch. The spectacle, the glamour, the bad musical numbers and cheesy memorial montages -- we love it all. In fact, Gothamist (ie. Jen Chung and movie correspondent Karen Wilson) will be live blogging the ceremony but in the meantime, here's a few predictions for the winners:
Gothamist Contest: See Oldboy Friday Night
We've been hearing amazing things about Oldboy since it won last year's Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix, for being innovative and daring with its storytelling (our own Karen Wilson says, "This is one of those movies like Memento or Irreversible that the cineastes in your world will be rabidly debating around the watercooler") but Gothamist has had to wait. Oldboy opens in theaters on March 25, but you don't have to wait until then: Gothamist is having a contest to give away tickets to an Oldboy screening on Friday (3/18) night!
See The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou!
Gothamist has loved Wes Anderson and his films even since we saw Dignan's Five Year Plan in Bottle Rocket, so we're happy to announce that Touchstone Films has given us twenty-five tickets to a screening of Wes Anderson's new film, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, starring Bill Murray. And we're holding a contest to give them away!!
