Today, the NY Times delved into the world of a mystical rabbi, his celebrity followers, high-power publicists, and, not least of all, the rabbi's charity's missing millions as it reported on Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto: "The rabbi’s close followers are disclosing what they say is the source of many of his troubles. They said they told federal investigators that the rabbi had been the victim of a bizarre embezzlement and extortion plot that was carried out by two former members of his inner circle, who stole his congregation’s money and tried to frame him."

Why Not: Paterson Gives Kabbalah A Whirl
Kabbalah has proven to be the most convenient way to reduce 4,000 years of teachings into a good luck charm against celebrity misfortune, in the form of a trendy, $26 red bracelet. Now the Daily News reports that joining the ranks of hapless public figures such as A-Rod, Paris Hilton, and Britney Spears is our own Governor Paterson. It wouldn't be surprising if he had an arsenal of evil eye amulets to go with the Jewish talisman—forgoing his reelection bid, being under investigation, having his feelings hurt, and being on the front lines of the budget wars are only a few of the problems besetting the lame-duck Governor.
Madonna Needs a V8 or Something
There are some photographs a really skinny-looking Madonna leaving the Kabbalah Centre in Midtown. The Daily News calls her a "funereal girl...gone from glamorous to cadaverous" while British tabloid The Sun thinks she looks plain odd, wondering if a vacuum sucked "out most of her face." The Material Girl is turning 50 next month, and the Sun also reported that she and Guy Ritchie will renew their vows in England around that time. Her Sticky & Sweet Tour starts August 23 in Cardiff, Wales--she'll make her way to North America with five shows at Giants Stadium and Madison Square Garden in October.
Red Sox Fans Taunt A-Rod With Madonna Pics
As expected, the hometown crowd at Fenway Park was ready to harass Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez, whose private life has been very public lately. Last year, after A-Rod's public appearance with a blond stripper made news, Boston fans wore blond lady masks.
C-Rod's Spending, A-Rod's "Affair of the Heart"
The breakup of Alex Rodriguez and Cynthia Rodrigeuz's marriage took another nasty turn after she filed for divorce yesterday. The Yankee third baseman's friends told the Daily News that C-Rod spent $100,000 during her trip to Paris. This comes as one of Cynthia Rodriguez's divorce lawyers called A-Rod's much-rumored affair with Madonna "an affair of the heart."
C-Ya, A-Rod: C-Rod Claims "Marital Misconduct" in Divorce Papers
Cynthia Rodriguez filed for divorce from Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez today in Miami. According to the papers, she claims A-Rod "emotionally abandoned" her and that the marriage is "irretrievably broken" due to his "extra-marital affairs and other marital misconduct." She is looking for primary custody of their two daughters, child support to "maintain the existing lifestyle of the children," and their $12 million home in Coral Gables, Florida, plus paying attorney's fees. Notably, she is also seeking "equitable distribution" of assets acquired during their marriage--how much of A-Rod's $275 million Yankees contract that includes will be up to the lawyers.
C-Rod Believes Madonna and A-Rod Rumors
Cynthia Rodriguez might be the most suffering Yankee baseball wife these days (well, this side of Debbie Clemens). According to the Daily News, C-Rod told her friends Madonna is "using Kabbalah to brainwash Yankee star Alex Rodriguez into believing they are 'soulmates'."
